Skylar or Skyler?

This is not a name I am considering. My step-sister just named her baby Skylar today and I was curious if this was the correct spelling. Of course I knew you ladies would have the answer!!

Technically, both are modern variants of the Dutch surname Schuyler. So, not sure how either is a more legitimate modern made up misspelling than the other. So, I guess either goes.

It's Schuyler! I'm Dutch and it means "scholar" typically given to teachers/historians way back when like Smith and Mason were given to people of that profession. 1) I don't understand how anyone can pick a name for a child without doing any research and 2) I find it incredibly ironic that someone would name their child a name meaning scholar but spell it incorrectly and have done zero research about it.
