Regular tide vs HE Tide

I realized today that I got the HE Tide. I don't have an HE machine, just a plain old TL. So what exactly is the difference between them? I got the big box, and have already used it a few times. So I can't return it.

Mostly the he is lower sudsing. I think it's fine to use he in a regular machine but not vice versa, but ianatu.

I used to sell appliances, we were told that they can both be used in either type of machine. HE detergent suds less, use it in a regular machine as normal. Regular detergent can be used in an HE machine, but the amount needs to be reduced by half to prevent over sudsing.
