40+ and Pregnant

I am 40 years old and because of my age I am considered a high risk pregnancy according to a doctor.  I have had many of the woman in my family very recently have babies at 40+.  None of the woman over 40 that I know have had high risk symptoms.  I hate this label.

I am 5 weeks along.  My previous pregnancy last year ended in miscarriage around this time.  I can just tell this one is going to stick.  I have no symptoms at all other then I missed my period.  Apparently I conceived exactly one week after my daughter gave birth to her daughter.  Weird.

I am curious if any of you have had good healthy pregnancies being "high risk"?  I feel totally find right now.  Knock on wood.

High risk doesn't mean that anything will go wrong it just means that there are exactly that, higher risks of complications. There are many women here who get classed as high risk without any actual problems during pregnancy. Usually it just means some extra appointments and maybe a few more blood tests.

It can suck having the label attached but at the end of the day I would rather the label and know that if something does go wrong I have my medical team watching me.

I was just classified as a high risk pregnancy too. At first I was really worried, (still kinda am!) but the bright side is, you get extra appointments to check up on LO! I for example have to have ultrasounds done twice as often as the regular pregnant lady, and really don't mind! Much more chances to see him/her and reassurance that they are okay

I am high risk, not only for being 41 (due date is 4 days before my 42nd birthday), but also because DS2 is special needs.  I am 14wk, 3d today and so far, so good.  I took a Harmony test that came back with great results and they will do additional monitoring of me (plus the additional MFM stuff which starts in a few weeks) starting at 32wk.  I don't mind the label as that is all it is - a label.  It does not define me, it just makes the doctors know to be more thorough and to watch things more.

Just popping over to say I had no issues with my pregnancy when I delivered my last LO at 43. Somewhat similar story....I realized I was late based upon my teenage daughter's cycle! GL with the pregnancy and try not to worry.
