flats ON?

I'm loving the whole flats/receiving blankets thing because they're so easy to wash and use with my hard water/HE machine.  DS pees way more than DD did.  So - looking ahead,  I'm expecting to need something pretty heavy duty for ON for him.  As of now I'm changing him at least once overnight.  Anyone use hemp flats ON with a heavy wetter?  Could they possibly hold enough?  The flats clean SOOOO well!  Or would a receiving blanket doubled with a hemp booster maybe be enough?

The ammonia smell/rash/burn hasn't come back yet from our crazy strip/wash routine change... but since the S'bish were the worst offenders, I'm thinking that flats would wash better...

Thoughts?

Re: flats ON?

  • I bought hemp fleece and just cut and serged the edges. Then I used it as a padfolded flat in a Capri cover. A was I think a super heavy wetter overnight, because she needed 2 hemp flats (a total of 12 layers of hemp fleece) AND an additional bamboo fleece insert (3 or 4 layers depending on which I used). It was bulletproof though, and washed really well. Also it was easier to soak in the morning.

    It all revolves around you.
  • I've been using a bamboo flat with 2 Hemps for DS1 and he hasn't leaked ou of that. Te red edge prefolds+2 Hemps wasn't cutting it anymore.

  • I fold together two flats (made of diaper flannel) and pair with a doubler (favorite is Thirsties velour doubler) under a Thirsties DuoWrap, and that gets DS through 12 hours with no leaks. But DS is not a heavy wetter, so YMMV.
