Restless legs - Help!

I have had serious trouble sleeping lately because when I lie down in bed my legs and feet are so restless I can't get them to stay still and just have this urgent need to move them, shake them, get up and walk around, or anything to try and find a way to relax.  I didn't have this issue with DD, but with a month to go, I need sleep!  Any advice on getting legs and feet to settle down at night?

  • Things I've used and have worked:

    Tens machine
    Compression/flight socks
    Stretches before bed
    Eating a banana before bed

    Things I haven't tried but heard about (you might want to Google for more info) :

    Magnesium
    A magnet at the end of the bed

  • Have had it my whole life and it has been soooo much worse now that I'm pg. Only 2 things I've found to help are a hot shower (yes drag your butt out of bed and do this) and orgasms. Daily orgasms tend to help most ailments though.

  • I feel your pain and here is what has helped with me. 

    A hot shower (even at 3am, yes it helps)
    A bar of soap at the end of the bed. (old wives tale. Whether it is psychological or not, but it helped.

  • I've been suffering from this, too. My OB prescribed an over the counter magnesium supplement. It's made all the difference in the world for me. I'd ask your OB.

  • Prop your legs up with a pillow try to relax and get comfortable I have the same problem except i have really bad leg cramps and sore hips
  • I agree with SSCmomma .....the only thing I have found to calm my restless legs is having an orgasm before falling asleep....works everytime!
