Sick...

My baby has her first cold and I feel awful for her!! She was so cold last night (it was 71 in the house, but she was in her pack and play so she didn't have any extra blankets.) she's been sleeping now for about 10 hours straight except for two feeding a I woke her up for (and she drank around 5oz each time, so I know she's getting liquids and food). Anyone else dealing with a sick kiddo and how do you keep from crying every time you hear them sniffle?

Re: Sick...

  • DS had viral sore throat two weeks ago, luckily DD didn't get it. I try and put things in perspective to keep from getting too emotional. For example, DS doesnt go to daycare or preschool so he isn't exposed to constant germs that kids carry a different don't want him to be the kid who is out sick most of kindergarten so being sick is good and allowing him to build up ammunities to sickness.

  • DD is dealing with her first cold. The humidifier is great help overnight. I felt so bad when my son would get sick, but at age five, I now see how healthy and resilient he is. I don't feel so bad with DD because it really is a part of life and will help build their immune system. DS had terrible colds with about 8 ear infections over a six month period, from 6 months to a year old. We ended up getting tubes in his ears at 13 months and he's done great. Keeping things in perspective helps, theres a lot worse than a cold. It does suck to hear them all congested.
  • Grr is just getting over RSV. I've got strep + a cold. We are a hot mess. I'm so hoarse people can't understand me on the phone. Or in the sonic drive thru. He's getting better. I'm getting better. But fuck this.

  • I had a sister in law over for coffee all day LO was at his worst. It helped to have someone else be the voice of reason instead of listening to my mommy brain going crazy over every cough and sniffle.
  • Thanks so much guys! So much love that helps me calm down. She's much better tonight, I just felt like a horrible mommy today.
