GTKY: What wine do you enjoy?

Hi all!
Since wine seems to be a popular choice around here, I was wondering - what kinds of wine do you enjoy most?
I'm not a big wine drinker (I tend to stick to the darker german liquors if I want alcohol), but DH and I were going grocery shopping and saw Apothic Dark
image
We've got a friend who likes Apothic Red so I figured why not, especially with a label description of:
"this limited release blends dark fruit flavors of blueberry and blackberry with opulent notes of coffee and dark chocolate for a rich yet silky smooth wine experience"

Should be interesting!
But what wines do YOU like?

Could ya'll describe your wine choices to me? looking at branching out and wanna get a feel.

Wine can go with Cheerios, right?

  • I either go with the seriously cheap (a la arbor mist) or I go local. There's a ton of great wineries around here that focus mostly on fruit wines, and in particular blueberry wine. There was a wine I tasted years back that I really need to get some of. It was an oak aged blueberry wine, and for someone who doesn't usually drink, it sure went down smooth

  • I enjoy so many! Most of them are less than $20, rarely more than $10. Lately I'm into reds with the cooler weather

For Cabernet: I like the Chilean ones (Santa Rita, Veramonte). Also Liberty School from CA.

For Malbec: Santa Julia, Alamos, and if I'm splurging, Zuccardi (all Argentina)

I also like Seven Deadly Zins (CA), Las Rocas Garnacha (Spain), and Erath Pinot Noir (Oregon)

  • We drink mostly white wine or champagne/sparkling wine.

Wine wise my favorites are pinot grigio and sauvignon blanc.

Champagne/Sparkling wine wise you can't beat segura viudas.   It's fairly cheap and if you need a hostess gift you can get the one with the awesome silver tone  based bottle.  If we are splurging we love
  • Still waiting for DH to get home so I can pop open this bottle of Apothic Dark.

*shifty eyes* I may or may not have just gone out to the store to get Relax Reisling since it seems to be so popular. Hey, I had the small excuse of trying to find some tahini for my hummus (which unfortunately looking in 2 stores did not find any. *humph*)

I also found Apothic Rose, another limited release. Looked interesting so I grabbed it as well. The description says: a fragrant and succulent blend, snipped fresh from the vine to create ripe flavors of strawberry and watermelon." Sounds interesting. Whether it's good or not, the labels are really pretty. DH and I tend to collect bottles.

Side note, if you can't find tahini, you can use sesame oil in place of it in a pinch.  Not as healthy but it gives it that nice flavor.
  • I always seem to grab Relax Riesling
I love Riesling Relax as well.
  • Hmm I'm curious about the Apothic dark @forevermyfenix‌. We definitely like Apothic red. Having a glass of Four Graces Pinot noir right now myself.

Definitely really really dark and moody tasting. A good sipper without being too dry. I'm really no wine connoisseur so I'm not very good at describing it, but it's good :)

oooh! I'll have to run and get some sesame oil tomorrow and some peanut butter. Mmmmmm...

Right now the description I'd give Apothic Dark is a little smoky/spicy/espresso . Definitely a sipper

  • I'm a wine fan (and craft beer and sometimes cocktails :\"> ). I usually drink wine though. I like lighter, fruity, dry wines (sweet wines give me headaches). I usually drink some type of German Riesling, Pinot Noir, or Montepulciano.

  • What wine don't I like is a better question :) A good starter red is Cupcake Red Velvet. I like Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc. Both are around the $10 range. A Spanish Cava is fantastic if you like sparkling. And if you want to break the bank, a first or second growth Bordeaux (Haute Medoc).

I totally bought this champagne for the first time for the bottle alone- it's gorgeous (ended up buying another and making them in to candle holders).  Just a huge bonus that it tastes really good!

  • I'm usually a pinot noir fan the most and love both by Territorial (tough to find depending on what part of the country you are in).  We just did some wine tastings for our anniversary and went to their tasting room in Oregon and tried a new blend called Mongrel (pinot noir and petit sirah)- OMG, SO GOOD!  It's only sold in that tasting room, so we ordered half a case and sent it home.  I'm anxiously awaiting it's arrival :)

  • I'm ashamed to admit that I'm a horrible wine drinker.. I like spritzers with a bit of sprite. Don't judge! Lol

I always wanted to love wine but I just haven't been able to yet :-/
I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

  • Anything Spanish, especially tempranillos. My palate changes. I was on a pinot noir kick until this pregnancy....since the mmc, I have preferred Cabernet. Idk. I usually buy from the bottom shelf and hope my aerator will do its job, unless it's a special occasion. BUT black box cabernet is really good if you don't mind getting your wine from a box.
Yummm, love tempranillos.  We drink Campo Viejo fairly frequently

  • Luckily, my DH and I have similar taste. The darker, drier, bolder the red the better. Love a good bit of spice & oak. Malbec, Syrah, Tempranillo, a good Merlot (I'm picky on that one), a good Cab. For whites, anything dry & citrus-y. I'm not generally a Chardonnay fan. Love dry Rieslings, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio. We drink mostly local. We love to go wine tasting, near home & whenever we travel. Recently been drinking very local -- as in our own kitchen. We've been making wine at home for about a year now. :-)
