TTC after 35

My body is clearly a mess.......

I suck at charting. I have failed miserably  at my 2 attempts at temping....so there really is not way of knowing without a trip to the dr what the heck is wrong with me.

A few of you ladies will remember not to long ago I was "late" and when i say that it was a total estimation because i don't temp.....i just was going by the fact that my cycles were always 31 days........never failed.....till then. Your like clockwork till your not.......right? ugh.

So here
I am in the same position again....another cycle Im on day 37 and nothing.

Never been to an RE. Everything you lovely dears who do see RE go through is completely foreign to me.

BTW......I don't think there is any chance Im PG. We did the deed like 1 time this month (i know sooooo bad) because of schedules and i was sick. So thats not whats going on here.

So my question is:

Ladies who have gone through this...when you go to the OBGYN do they want you to have been temping??? Is this something that they will  find necessary to find out what is going on with me? Maybe I'm going through super early menopause! gah!

Time to make an appt......

No personal experience but from what I have seen on the boards, most Ob/gyn's don't even recommend charting let alone expect it.  So while it might be helpful, I don't think they would expect it at all.

  • In my experience the charting was a nice to have, not a "must have". They'll want to run their own tests anyway so charting isn't mandatory.

  • Good.......cause I have FAILED at it every time i attempted. I don't want to show up and them be like "go back and temp a few months and come back"

  • I agree that they won't expect charts, and I'm glad you're going in!

I wouldn't worry about stuff like "super-early menopause," either.  I had reaaallly irregular periods in my late 20s (they didn't get regularly regular until I was in my late 30s), and I think it was a combination of frequent weight gain/loss and stress.

I hope it's a quick fix in your case!

  • maybe i'm just the optimistic hopeful, but if you're not temping and not charting at all, there really is no way to know if you did ovulate and when. so even if you only dtd ONCE, maybe that's all it took. We generally suck at any sexy time in our household, but I've managed to get pregnant in the past. Both times we only dtd the once and both times I was as vehement as you were that there was no possible way. I was utterly wrong. I'm not saying that's what's going on with you, all I'm trying to point out is that it's entirely within the realm of possibility.

  • I'm thinking what Davie813 said.
But I would see your gyno to have bloodwork done to make sure your hormones are all ok.
I will send you a hug cause I miss you >:D<

  • My OBGYN didn't even look at my charts. My RE did but even from him, I didn't get the feeling they were necessary. Good luck! I hope you get some answers!

  • @hooligans4 i miss you too and all my other ladies! Im going to make it a point to be back here more. Ive been beyond swamped. Baby making was the last thing on my brain lately.

As i said i suspect my health has my body all wonky. I stopped dieting ALL together. Eating disorders and yo-yo dieting have messed up my metabolism and i have spent over a month eating a lot more and exercising. That way my body knows 1. that I'm moving and I need fuel and 2. That its getting fuel so go ahead and work the way its supposed to.

Well I have realized this week that my metabolism is back on track. because I am hungry in the mornings. That has not been normal for me......i could and would often go till like 2pm before i touched a crumb! Yeah I can't do that anymore........i have to eat now and i have to eat a few times a day.....I am suddenly STARVING all the time.......HELLO METABOLISM! lol.

Now maybe I can attempt HEALTHY weight loss. So thats the plan right now. :)

So a healthy diet and exercise plan and a trip to the Dr is all in the works.

  • Charting doesn't make your body regulate either, meaning even if you do temp/chart, etc cycles get screwy every once in a while... mine this go round

I'd suggest the typical bloodwork, cd3, 7dpo, etc. Best wishes to you!
  • Well I am glad to know someone else sucks at charting AND that OBGYN and RE's don't need to see them.

I started charting this month because I knew we wouldn't get to really DTD much due to travel and I didn't want to be wasting OPK's when it didn't matter anyway.

However my chart looks like a pulse chart, up down, up down, no clear pattern, ovulation date or rising temperature.

I think I'll be making an appt for an RE in the next few months as my 36th birthday is looming and we don't feel any closer to a baby.
  • The biggest benefit of charting is determining if you actually ovulate at all. However, even if you confirm it, that doesn't mean there isn't a problem. My RE has determined that even though I ovulate, it is a weak ovulation, plus a luteal phase defect that cause my issues with fertility. On my first medicated cycle, I got pregnant (sadly, that ended in miscarriage).

My OB and RE both recommend using OPK's to determine when you're fertile and the best time to have intercourse. However, again, OPK's will not tell you that you ovulated....they only tell you that you had a surge in the lutenizing hormone, indicating that ovulation *might* happen soon. My OB isn't a big advocate for temping, but then again, she's not a fertility doctor.

Are you temping at/around the same time everyday, and after 3 hours or more of interrupted sleep? Also, you must take your temp before you get out of bed, go pee, etc. Laying in bed is when you should temp, before you ever get up. If you are getting up and moving around, then taking your temp, that will cause a rocky chart. I suggest picking up 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility' if you want to learn more about your cycle. It's an interesting and helpful book.

If you want to forego charting, below is the best "plan" out there. It hasn't worked for me this time around (but I have underlying issues), but my sister was AMA and got pregnant with both her kids (at age 35 and 38) within just a couple months using this and temping, plus a fertility monitor (but she was super crazy about it)...I think this is the best plan if you don't want to bother with temping. Just remember, without temping, you will not know if you truly did ovulate.

  • I'm so glad you are just eating healthy and exercising @KirstenAlecia‌. That's how I lost my 30 lbs. I was like you and would go all day without eating. I eat more now than when I was heavy. I just eat all the right foods. My metabolism is working now do even if I eat something bad it doesn't show as long as it's only once in a while.
I hope eating well will get your cycles back on track.
