Working away from home

First mom to be here so I obviously have many questions. This first one is about my job.
I currently work out of town, Mon-Fri, coming home on the weekends. I work about 2.5 hours from home and have accommodations near my job.

My predicament is, I dont believe there is anything I could do closer to home/at the office. My job consists of working out of town. How can I talk to my boss about what I could do to be closer to home? I dont want to have to leave my job simply because im pregnant. But I need to be home for doc appointments and pre-natal classes that I plan on joining, not to mention having my husband close so he can be involved more than on the weekends when im home.

Has anyone else experienced this and what did you do??

Thank you :)

  • GET A NEW JOB... Its hard enough leaving your newborn in the hands of someone else for 8ish hours to work ( speaking from experience ) . I couldn't imagine leaving my child for an extended time to work every week. CRAY !

  • I was in a similar situation. My doctor said she didn't want me traveling in the third trimester, so I used that as the jumping off point to discuss winding down my traveling commitments towards the end of the second and that's when I focused on classes, nesting....and the doctor appointment don't really increase until then. Since coming back to work, it's been a lot harder telling them I didn't want to be on the road anymore. I'm actually in NYC for the first time in a year right now for a night...sort of a trial run. I'm working on redefining my role so travel is minimal. If that doesn't pan out, I'm probably going to get a new job. I love my job, but I love baby more.
  • thanks everyone :)

Once the baby is born, of course I wont be traveling for work which means I will probably have to leave this job unfortunately. I meant more so while im pregnant. I doubt my husband will want me on the road/away all week while im further along. Looks like ill be talking to my boss and hopefully working something out.

    Thanks again!
