How do you organize all the clothes?

I was going to make a clicky poll, since it is CPT isn't it? bbuutt, I couldn't figure out how to word the categories and really thought it would be easier without options...it's a slow day and I'm keeping myself distracted so I figured it couldn't hurt to start a new thread on something lame right?

I have 6 drawers for DD's currently fitting clothes (still waiting on a closet rod and storage rack). I'm always changing my mind about how to put things away, and though I think it's pretty easy too tell, DH and MIL usually need help finding where things go. I'm a very laid back non-type a person, so it's just not something I think all that much about. I do wonder though if there's a better way. I hate being inconsistent. Also, I can never decide how to store 2-piece matching outfits...together or not?? hhmm... Someone must have a system out there I can copy!! ;)

Right now it looks like this:

1: dress up clothes & socks, tights,
2. 2 piece outfits together
3. pj's
4. short and long-sleeve shirts
5. pants
6. hats, snow suits, random junk...

How do you keep LO's clothes straight?

Re: How do you organize all the clothes?

  • I tend to constantly rearrange clothes until they get older.  Baby clothing is evil and makes me want to kill myself sometimes. Don't even get me started on the evils of baby clothes sizing!

Right now here is my system.  Drawer #1 socks, bloomers, and tights.  Drawer #2  short sleeve shirts and onsies.  Drawer #3 shorts and skirts.  Drawer #4 Long pants and long sleeve shirts/onsies.   Drawer #5 Footed sleepers, sleep sacks and PJs.   In her closet are dresses and hoodies/coats.  Downstairs with our winter stuff are her hats/gloves.

I do not store "outfits" together.  The bottom of the closet is just a pile of clothing that is too small and when it gets big enough I bag it all up.  Clothing that is too big still is all in a tote just sitting in her room.

  • We have a 6 drawer dresser for DD also.  Hers looks like this:

1: accessories (socks, hats, tights, headbands, bibs, etc) all in compartments
2: extra diapers, changing pad liners, diaper creams, nail clippers, nose frida, nose drops,  etc. also in compartments.
3: onsies- we have stupid amounts of onsies.  still
4: sweaters, long and short sleeved t-shirts, cardigans
    5: pants and skirts
    6: pajamas

dresses are hung in the closet.

Baby's dresser only has 4 drawers. So they are pretty crowded:

1.) Accessories (socks, tights, gloves, swimsuits)
    2.) PJs and sleep sacks
    3.) Onsies, tops, sweaters
    4.) Pants and skirts

Coats are hung in our family coat closet.
Special dresses are hung in my closet.

  • My DS has a small walk in closest so we just decided to hang everything by size (I found on pinterest a cute way to make the dividers). In each section I have the clothes divided by onsies, footies, pants, etc and I bought a small bin for hats and socks.
  • I actually hang all of DS clothes and put short sleeve shirt onesies together than long sleeve shirts/sweaters together. DS has a dresser and one drawer is pants, one is pjs, socks/plain tees/hats, drawer of blankets/crib sheets etc.
  • No closet yet here either.  We have a three-drawer dresser and baskets underneath her changing table.  In the dresser: Drawer #1 has all pajama items, #2 has all the pants/shorts/dresses, and #3 has extra sheets and keepsakes.  Underneath the changing table is most frequently used so all items are just placed in baskets for quick access.  Basket #1 has all socks/tights/shoes, #2 has all the short-sleeve shirts and onesies, #3 has all the long-sleeve shirts and onesies.  So far, it works well.

all up.  Clothing that is too big still is all in a tote just sitting in
    her room.

This is pretty much our setup. Every other week I try to go through her clothes to pull out things that are too small and go through the bigger clothes I have for her in storage.
  • Storing baby clothes is so hard. This is what I do:

    Dresser
Drawer 1: socks, pajamas, sleep sacks
Drawer 2: onesies and any tops separated into short and long sleeve
    Drawer 3: pants
Drawer 4: outfits - stored folded together and holiday items

Changing table has diapers, wipes, bibs, burp clothes

    Closet
Sweatshirts, a few nice outfits, and dresses hanging
Shelves in closet have spare bedding and blankets

I keep a plastic tub in the bottom of her closet for anything she outgrows

I keep clothes that are just slightly too big with the other clothes in the dresser. I just put them in the bottom of the stack. That way I know to try them every so often but they won't be the first thing I grab in a hurry.
  • I have to keep things together. Whether it's a matched set or just an outfit I put together I prematch things that go together. Don't know why it's so hard but H and my mom were putting random/nonmatching/weird things together as "outfits" because they were on top. It bothered me the way they were dressing him so I fixed it by preselecting outfits.
I got drawer organizers from ikea and use them for smaller items in each drawer. Drawers of dresser are bibs, beanies, socks and Pjs in top.
Paired outfits in middle, with extra onesie and shirts in a divided section.
Bottom is washcloths and towels and jackets.
I hang up things that don't fit him yet so I can see to wash them when we go up a size.
