Dealing with pelvic rest

I'm 8w3d and have been having brown spotting for a week now. We had two healthy heartbeats last week, and I want to keep these little beans safe! As a precaution, my doctor's office suggested pelvic rest and progesterone suppositories. I'm following up with them today. As a fitness instructor that has trouble not being active, I know this is going to be tough. I'm prepared to just demo or take a break from teaching, whatever I need to do. But, I know it'll be tough. DH is also concerned what this change might do to my overall health, too. Anyone had to adjust to pelvic rest? Any tips to get through it? Thanks!!

Re: Dealing with pelvic rest

  • During my first try with my son my doctor would only let me walk and that was it.  I am a spin instructor and run regularly.  We had to do IVF to get pregnant so along with not letting me workout he wouldn't let us have intercourse either.  I got the all clear at my 11 1/2 wk u/s and was very happy about that.  I just kept an eye on what I was eating, I knew I need a little extra calories for the little on in there but didn't need to over do it like I know some do.  My husband dealt with the no sex rule better then I expected.  I went back to teaching my spin and back to jogging.  I wouldn't do any hard sprints or anything like that and for spinning I just took it a little easier then I used to.  We are currently prego with #2 on our own :).  I just asked my doctor if I had to follow the same restrictions and he to go about my normal life but just listen to my body.  He knows my work out routine and said don't be dumb and over do it at all.

    Good luck to you!

  • Thank you! Good to know you dealt with it, and could later resume activities. I've taught spin in the past and am currently teaching a couple of Tabata classes per week, so lots of squatting and jumping. I'm going to see if I can do more of a demo approach, and correct form and all of that. So far, doc has recommended a couple of weeks. We will see how things go.
