Difficulties breastfeeding

So up until now DD has been a champ at breastfeeding but now (at 3 months) she really seems to struggle while feeding her. She's constantly pulling off, grunting and writhing around....it's so crazy. I'm not quite sure what's going on. Has anyone experienced this? It's really frustrating! Thoughts?

Re: Difficulties breastfeeding

  • Is AF coming back?? Do you notice a drop in supply? Maybe she is going through a growth spurt and you haven't caught up yet. That's all I can think of. Or maybe a tooth or ear infection? Sorry, I know breastfeeding struggles are so stressful! Hope it gets worked out soon!!!

  • @wille2b‌ I think my supply is ok but I did just go back to work and who knows about AF. I got an IUD at my postpartum appt and have had flow for a while now ugh! Sooo annoying.

@LeahB12‌ if it was reflux it would occur while she was bottle feeding also right? From what I hear she's not having problems bottle feeding

  • She's probably annoyed at how slow your boob is compared to the bottle. Who watches her during the day? Go over Kellymom's tips for bottle feeding a breastfed baby.
She might also just be becoming more aware so try feeding her in a quiet room with minimal distractions.

  • I'm with TJ on the frustrations on bottle v breast. Kelly mom is great! There are also some YouTube videos on paced bottle feeding.

We didn't deal with reflux, so I can't weigh in on that. Can you make it to a LLL meeting?

  • I agree with the others. As long as you are confident that your supply is ok, it sounds like bottle vs. breast. Even a slow flow nipple is going to be significantly faster than the breast.
Same. Either it's taking to long compared to the bottle, she's more aware especially with a sibling running around etc. Give it time. Hopefully it passes. I swear with BFding it's always something. I now have to feed in a seperate room to get away from distractions.

  • @TJ1979‌ thanks for the tip! I just watched a video on youtube how to do paced bottle feeding. DH is home with her today so I'm gonna have him try it!

@mcgeeva‌ yes! I know for sure she gets very distracted so I always feed her in the rocking chair in her nursery to try to get away.
