transitioning from rock play to crib

If your Lo slept in Rock n play for a bit did they eventually have trouble going from something that was more snuggled around them to an open area in a crib? I am afraid that when its time to put her in crib she is going to move around too much and not like it. I tried tonight and after about 20 min. she was moving around a bit.

Re: transitioning from rock play to crib

  • We did and had no problems. You could try to "phase it in" by letting LO sleep in the crib for one of her naps during the day.

  • We are gradually introducing DS to the crib by having him take some of his naps during the day. If he's not quite tired enough or asleep before putting him down, he will wake up after about 10 minutes, but he has successfully taken several naps.

  • We switched LO around the 2 month mark. I thought it would be a nightmare, but it wasn't.

We had RnP set up next to crib so his "view" of the room & mobile on the crib would be almost the same. For a few nights I would put him to sleep in the RnP and an hour or so later, before I went to bed I would move him to the crib. During MOTN feeds he would immediately fall back asleep while I burped him, so I'd put him directly in the crib.

I had to (and still do sometimes) put my hands over his arms & legs when I initially lay him down, so that his first reaction to the cold sheets he would hit my arms and then his limbs would relax. I also found that if he started to flair his arms & legs, sometimes if I let him be he would settle on his own.

If you transition early enough the swaddle might also help you. My LO didn't like the swaddle.

  • Doing some sort of swaddle or sleep sack can help with the transition. That way LO can feel the sides of something and in theory more secure!

This exactly. Swaddle helps. We angled the mattress due to reflux anyway.

we have been swaddling since the beginning just was thinking the open-ness of the crib will feel different for DD

  • You could use a side sleeper or bassinet if you have one. They aren't as big as the crib but they are open. So she could get use to the feel of being open. I agree with swaddling to.

I would have DD take naps in her crib during the day and I think it made it easier for her to sleep there at night. And before each nap I would put her in there for longer periods of time.
