Braxton Hicks

What's your experience with them?!

I'm 26w4d - have had BH's for few weeks now.... Typically in morning & then if I've been "doing too much".

Today is 1st day where I've noticed them every time I am up walking around. Have call in to OB office, but because of time, might not hear back for a bit.

Curious what your experience has been. Should I be too concerned? They don't hurt. And aren't really "timeable" per Se.

Re: Braxton Hicks

  • I had a lot of Braxton hicks early on up until I had my babies. They never hurt and they were never timetable. Sometimes I would have quite a few of them though in an hour but I could always talk and walk through them. Sometimes they were really strong but never painful. I had my babies on my scheduled c section date at 38+1 weeks. I would just tell your doctor you've been having them. I would take hot baths though to relieve some of the tightness.

  • I had a lot of BH from 20-28 weeks. I let my ob know and made sure they were never following a consistent pattern. They were definitely more noticeable when I was on my feet for awhile or on walks to a park etc. now at 31 weeks they have subsided. They are so normal, just keep your eye on them

  • Thanks ladies!! OB office said pretty much the same... Keep an eye on them, but for now I'm good :)

Mine were awful, pretty much all day long at the end. Even turning the corner in the car would set them off. At one point, around 32 weeks or so, I was able to time them 8 min apart for over an hour. They actually hurt me toward the end but I could tell they were BH and not the real thing. No way to mistake the two if you know what real ones feel like. I too had some of the same guidelines but was being monitored every week by 32 weeks between my OB and MFM so I was not worried. Glad the dr calmed your worries but you can expect for the frequency and force to possibly increase. But seriously, don't ever hesitate to call or make a trip to the ER. Twin pgs are nothing to take lightly.

ETA: I delivered via csec 37 weeks with a cervix of 3cm so they obviously didn't affect me ;)

  • I had them starting at 16 weeks with my twins and 17 weeks with my singleton. Neither Time did they do anything. I was checked for the 1st and last time at 34+1 with the twins and I was soft but nothing else (had them at 34+4 for the reasons stated in my siggy. My singleton I was checked at 39+3 and I was closed up tight. Went into labour at 39+5 in the evening and had him at 336am at 39+6. Long story short, they did nothing for me.

  • So far so good! Cervix is unchanged - just lots of BH's :) better safe than sorry to get checked. Had 8 this morning in under an hour then consistently 4-6 an hour rest of morning & afternoon. Crazy!
