Picture box. I have all of the childhood albums of my family and loads of other pictures from the past 30 years. One day I'll scan them all to Dropbox......
The only material possession that I really have any major attachment to is my engagement ring, and I never take that off, so I wouldn't have to grab that.
I am sure that there is something else I would think of at the time. Maybe the quilt my grandma made me?
Ipad. So I could uses amazon prime to replace all the things that were burning while I shop. DH backs up pics on line regularly and important stuff is all in the safe. The only "thing" I would want to save would be our antique sideboard and I can't move it with out large hauling equipment.
I'd try to grab some of the very few items I have left from my dad...picture box, a painting that hung in the living room when I was growing up and a few pottery pieces he made.
Not much of anything worth grabbing that can't be replaced. Xh cured me of sentimental value in material possessions by destroying anything I valued....so I guess I'd just have to rescue ds2's diapers.

Craaaaaap. I have no idea what the right answer is and now I'm obsessing over it. Should I grab the car keys in the off chance that I could get my car moved and this have transportation and the boys' car seats? Or do the first responders send someone who can get us all transported to a safe place until our family can help us get new car seats? Maybe I should grab the diaper bag since it has my wallet and I have no idea how I'd go about getting the cards replaced if they melted.
Thanks, SAK. Now I'm going to spend all if this morning's play date hoping my house will wait to burn down until I can figure out a better fire safety plan.
PS Does anyone know anything about those out-the-window emergency ladders?
I would leave the diapers and go crazy buying new ones with insurance money.
Love this!
A friend of mine lost all her NB diapers in a flood. The insurance adjuster had never seen CDs, and tried to give her $3 a piece for the covers based on a link to one of those bloomer type covers for little girls. She had a heck of a time convincing him that they were indeed worth more than that.
Well my phone is on my nightstand so that is automatic. I might grab the diaper bag if it's packed or the car keys to move it out of the driveway so we have somewhere climate-controlled to wait out the damage and transport everyone. Though, A's car seat is never in the car, so maybe I'd grab that.
This is hard!
Also, Jane, I have one of those ladders, but I've never tested it out. Probably should to make sure I know how to use it...
I tried to think of an answer and it made me panicky. Apparently I have way too much emotional attachment to my stuff. But seriously, as long as my family and pets were safe, everything else is just stuff... Probably try to save my computer because of how much is on it, or my box of love letters from dh.
My dad was raised by a fireman & so he left his pants strategically placed by his bed every night. The legs were bunched down, so he could just step into them. We had a false alarm one night & he was up, dressed & in the hallway in about 5 sec.
Keys and wallet are on the way out and cellphone is usually next to me at night.
Keys: transportation and car seats if we need to go to a hotel.
Cellphone: because I have all my contacts in there.
Wallet: Credit cards.
There are a lot of things in my house that have sentiment value, but if I lost everything I want to be able to provide basic needs for my kids.
And I agree, the first thing in your head when you are in that situation is get out and grab my purse on the way. We had a scare in an apartment complex once. I grabbed the cats, got them in the kennel, grabbed my purse and ran out of the building. My husband was actually surprised how cool I was about it.
Does YH actually follow the instructions about not duplicating keys that say Do Not Duplicate? We used to have keys like that at my previous employer, but my boss was still paranoid that a former employee would duplicate their key before quitting/getting fired. So he always had new keys made for the whole store/staff when ever a disgruntled employee left. It cost so much money, but I guess it could prevent theft/vandalism. But then why bother putting Do not Duplicate on the key? I never got it.
