A question for moms that pump at work

Does your work allow you to continue pumping at work after one year? I mean with regard to taking breaks?

I heard a rumor that my employer only allows pumping breaks until baby is one year but I haven't asked for clarification yet. I would be surprised if this is the case as I am not penalized at all for breaks when I pump. (And I take 30 mins). Just curious what other employers do.

Thanks!
I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!

  • Legally, they only need to offer you pumping breaks until a year.

When DS1 turned a year, I had him drinking the last of our freezer stash while I just nursed him at home. I was ecstatic to give up pumping for his first bday present to me :)

DS1 continued to nurse until 26m, but he would just drink almond or cow's milk when we were apart.

  • Wow, I never heard that there was a time limit on pumping!
My employer has zero restrictions. I pump as many times and for as long as I want.
I would definitely check with your H.R. Dept.
  • I pumped with DS for an extra month but I didn't ask anyone about it. Probably different for me since I do it at recess (with a couple mins extra) and lunch.

  • Thanks all. I don't think my bis would ever say anything or even care. I'm hoping I won't be pumping 3
Times a day at that point but I'll just be discreet and see how it goes. Thanks all!

  • Ditto PPs that you're only protected by law up until age 1, after that it's up to the employer.  I mean, they have to still give you the regular legally mandated breaks, like lunch, which you could use for pumping, but they don't have to accommodate additional pumping breaks.

With LO1, I pumped at lunchtime until he was 13m and then just nursed nights/weekends. It worked fine, supply was not an issue, etc.
