Retroverted Uterus--when did you start showing?

Hi, I have a retroverted uterus and was told that I won't show until really late in my pregnancy. Has anyone else heard or experienced this? Does anyone know what that means for overall weight gain during pregnancy? Thanks!

Re: Retroverted Uterus--when did you start showing?

  • I also have a retroverted uterus and started showing last week really (15 wks).  It wasn't mentioned to me with my first pregnancy but I think I started showing around 16-18 wks.

  • I think I started showing around 15 weeks or so with my first. After the doctor mentioned the retroverted uterus in passing after an internal exam it was never brought up again so it wasn't really a factor in my pregnancy at all.

  • @GingerDS02, and 16-18 weeks is sort of late, right? I am 14 weeks now and not showing one bit.
  • I don't know.  I was really in shape back then and worked out before and during my pregnancy so I think that helped just keep everything tight.  This time, I went into the pregnancy out of shape!
Everyone will show at a different time, just be patient!

  • My doctor told me the retroverted uterus rights itself by week 12 (for a FTM) so showing shouldn't take any longer than it normally would. But every body is different, as said here. I'm 16 weeks and I look thicker but no bump, so it's likely my guts moving up. I still exercise a lot though, as I did pre-pregnancy.
  • I have a retroverted uterus. I'm 14 weeks and not showing yet. My doctor also told me it would right itself by 12 weeks. He told me it would impact how early we could hear the heartbeat on the Doppler, but didn't mention it changing anything else.

  • I'm 15 weeks with retroverted and just all of a sudden started showing. My midwife said that the uterus doesn't "flip forward", it just grows up then forward.
  • I have a retroverted uterus and I'm showing now at 15 weeks. I was told I'd show at the same time as if I had a normally orientated uterus. It was confirmed at my 12 week scan that my uterus had moved forward and is no longer retroverted. I was told that should no complications arise the latest they expect my uterus to move forward would be 14 weeks. Obviously it happened sooner. It doesn't mean anything about your weight gain.

  • Did you gain a fair amount of weight though? In what is supposed to be the healthy range (25-35?)

  • I have a retroverted ute, 15 weeks, FTM and have a small pooch. I'm petite so a little weight gain shows quickly.
Any ladies with retroverted utes have bladder issues? I posted something a while ago, as my ute puts pressure on my bladder and has caused me to not be able to pee (twice). I went to the emerg yesterday and had to have a catheter. :( My OB and ER doc both said its common with retroverted uterus, and should adjust once baby is bigger. Be careful ladies, pee often. I'd hate to hear about anyone else go through this. Just the pits, painful and pretty scary. Feeling much better today.

I had some peeing issues a few weeks back. I could hardly pee at all even though I felt like I desperately needed to. It kind of felt like a UTI but fortunately that was ruled out. I was told to get down on my hands and knees which would help my ute move forward. So I literally spent an entire day on my hands and knees. It seemed to work and although I've felt some pressure in the area since, I haven't had any troubles peeing. I'm sorry you had to get a catheter.

  • I'm 15w1d with first pregnancy and not showing at all. I also have a retroflexed ute. I've lost about 16-18 lbs due to serious morning sickness. All the weight ive lost makes me worried about not showing yet. I'm sti getting sick almost every day.
  • I didn't really show until 16 weeks with my last pregnancy and still am wearing and buttoning my regular pants this pregnancy at 12.5 weeks. I do have a retroverted uterus but don't think that has much to do with it really.
  • I have the same. I had to go in for my sequential screening 3x before the baby was in the right spot. I was not complaining! I am 14 weeks and it is just now moving forward. I have a very small bump that no one but me would notice.

@Ereynold‌ I've heard that if you lean back like your uterus it may help you pee, but I have no clue if that works
  • I have a retroverted uterus and I'm 13 weeks and starting to show. I'm showing because of my small torso and my organs have nowhere to go compared to most people with normal sized torso. My midwife said you'll start popping out now(last week).
