RMA NJ Egg Retrieval

Hello ladies :)
I am in the middle of an IVF cycle. (after 4 failed IUIs)  Will have my egg retrieval coming up very soon. For me this is the most concerning part. I'm semi worried about anesthesia. I am an ICU and LD RN, so this does not help my situation at all. I am looking for women who used RMA NJ to share their retrieval experiences pleeease. How did you feel under sedation? How sedated were you? Were you awake enough to converse, look at monitors, know what was going on? I have seen some women report these things on forums but at other clinics. I use diprovan (which RMA uses for sedation) at work on my own patients, however these patents are intubated and completely out of it. So I'm assuming RMA uses the smallest possible dose. It's lovingly referred to as 'milk of amnesia' play on milk of magnesia b/c you don't really remember what happened when you have this med. This is also just a sedative, does nothing for pain. So what did you get for pain? How uncomfortable was it during and after? I have been reading some horror stories. (again from other clinics) Did you get prescription pain meds to go home with?
Soooo looking forward to hearing your RMA experiences. Please help calm my anxiety :)  Thanks ladies!!!!

Re: RMA NJ Egg Retrieval

  • I had three ERs, one of which was at the clinic you are asking about. I was out and don't remember a thing from the procedure. No intubation. It took about 20 minutes. I personally have a hard time with the anesthesia and become very nauseous, but that had little to do with the way it was administered. It's just the way I respond to anesthesia. The recovery nurses were absolutely fabulous and took such good care of me. They were about to do laser acupuncture on me to help me feel better from the nausea, but enough time had passed and I was starting to feel better.

    Good luck with your ER.

  • Thank you sooo much for your replies! How were your outcomes ladies? I'm on my way to the Allentown office now. That's where I go for the daily scans blood work ect. I live in Scranton WB area (abt an hr drive) and there are no (good) REs there. There is definitely more technology and better drs in the Lehigh valley area. The actual procedures as you know will be in NJ though. Did you ladies decide to do acupuncture there? Or anywhere else?
  • I've done three IVFs with nothing but BFNs. Poor embryo quality... I did the laser acu offered before & after the transfer at RMA. I didn't notice any difference, but we wanted to give it a shot. Good luck with your cycle.

  • PAIF Response **Warning**

I had 2 ERs at RMANJ. One with anesthesia- one without, and 3 others at a different clinic. My experience was like previous posters with the anesthesia- out really quickly and back in recovery in what felt like seconds. I did not enjoy or prefer the one without anesthesia, at all. I also had a little bit of a hard time getting my BP back up afterwards, but I'm overweight and I think they give you more meds based on weight.
I also did the laser acupuncture- it helped me relax, but I didn't notice much of anything else.
    Good luck!
