Trying to Get Pregnant

Early obulation

Hello!
I'm new to this community, and also new TTC (only 2 months). However, I've been off of my birth control for almost 2 years without "actively" TTC, so I anticipate we may have some trouble.
I've been using the Ovia fertility tracking app and temping. This month, I decided to start using OPK.
Well... I'm on cycle day 9 and just got a positive result this morning. Is this too early? Does anyone else get results this early in their cycle?
I'm also having some cramping. And yesterday, I checked my cervical position and my cervix was very tender. I'm just wondering what all this means.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated, because I'm really confused by all the conflicting information I'm reading.

    1)  CD9 not too early to O
    2)  You can get a positive OPK days before you actually O, or days after - it only helps with approximating when you should BD.  Temps are the only way to truly know when you ovulate
    3)  Cramping could be gas, it could be ovulation, it could be random body pains.  Hard to know so early.
    4)  Don't assume something is wrong just because you've been off BC for 2 years and didn't get pregnant.  You weren't "actively" trying so you could have easily missed your fertile window many times, and other times the odds may have not been in your favor.  With actively trying, you still only have a 20% chance of conception each cycle.
    5)  Several ladies on here will recommend the Fertility Friend app for temping/tracking - might be worth checking out!  Also be sure to read the newbie blog HERE for additional wisdom.

Good luck, welcome to TB, hope you get more comfortable with all the information.  I know it can be overwhelming at first.

  • As @fuzzylogic‌ said, you can get multiple LH surges but not actually ovulate and remember the test line needs to be as dark or darker than the control. Keep testing and temping but HIO just in case. I recommend getting rid of ovia and switching to Fertility Friend!

    Welcome
  • Whoops, just said pretty much exactly what @fuzzylogic said.  Sorry!

I kind of disagree with no. 4. The definition of infertility is one year of unprotected sex without pregnancy. It doesn't require that you chart and hit your fertile window 12 times. Most women have never heard of charting and still can get help after one year of sex without protection. But I think it wouldn't hurt to chart for a couple months before going to an RE.

I do sometimes get an almost positive at CD 9-10. Then it fades out and I get a real surge at cd13-14, followed by a sustained temp rise. Keep having sex until you confirm ovulation with temps!
    My TTC History:
    2009: missed miscarriage #1 at 9 weeks (trisomy 16)
    2010: Infertility
2011: Diagnosis and treatment (low sperm count, anastrozole for DH, clomid for me + IUI)
    2012: Baby #1
    2014: Baby #2
October 2015: missed miscarriage #2 at 11 weeks (trisomy 22)
    March 2016 BFP#5, due November 2016.

    My Charts since 2009

  • Every cycle is is different. I used to ovulate right before my period. Now i M not even sure when I do, but it can change I think from phase to phase. One time I want to my OB and got my routine pap only a week after my period and she told me I was ovulating! Didn't know they could tell by having a look-see haha!
  • It is possible but I wouldn't trust it just yet. I'd keep temping, taking OPKS, and HIO. Good luck!

Thanks for the correction @TheBorg7of9  -- I thought you would see an RE after a year of "actively trying" and not having success, not necessarily a year of NTNP.  But now I can see that makes sense - I'm sure there are plenty of couples who do not chart and seek help after a year of unprotected sex.
