What time did you start?

When beginning the transition to 1 nap, about what time did you start the nap? Currently, my LO (16.5m) naps about 9:30-9:45 for 1.5-2 hrs, then again anywhere between 2-3 for another 1-2 hrs. He is showing signs of probably just needing 1. But when we tried going down about 11-11:30, he ended up only napping like 1.5 hrs and there is no way he can make it to bedtime on that!

Maybe 15 months. I don't remember exactly but she naps from about 1130-130 since she transitioned. She sleeps from 630 PM to 7 AM

Day care took care of the transition for us when he switched into the toddler room at 16 months. They lay down for nap at 12:30, and he sleeps about 2 1/2 hours. We try to stay consistant at home. By 12:30 he is wiped & has no problems falling and staying asleep, the trouble sometimes can be getting him to stay up that long!

Same here, DC pretty much took care of the transition but you have to be aware of when they wake up and how many hours of sleep they are getting during the transition.  I make sure to up their bed time and no longer then 4 hours after waking they do down which lately is 6:30.

DS started transitioning right around 14/15 months. At first, he switched up when the nap would be. Sometimes it would be an early one, sometimes later. I transitioned to mid-day for a bit, which made lunch time hard. I would have to anticipate feeding early or feeding sort of late. We've finally settled on a good afternoon nap, starting anywhere between 1:00 and 2:15, depending on how late he wakes up.

For us, it worked well to let him lead the transition and times. It let me read his cues and let him learn to let me know. Now, I can catch him before he gets too exhausted and he has a good nap.

Dd1 was 10-11 months and DD2 just moved to one nap last week at 13 months. She naps for about 3 hrs.

@RedDDD what time does your LO usually wake up in the morning and typically when and how long of a nap? I've heard about the 4 hour "rule" for after naptime that you mentioned and just wondering how others implemented it.

At 12 months LO wakes around 8 and she's mostly down to 1 nap a day right around 12 that lasts about 2.5 hours and shes in bed at 8. I feel like thats too long of a time for her to go after her nap since she gets very fussy closer to bed time. To answer OP question, LO just went to 1 nap on her own by refusing the earlier nap and sleeping longer when she did actually nap. It was kind of a guessing game for me for a while. I'm actually still trying to figure out a good sleep schedule.

Ok so I do NOT profess to be an expert because DD has been kind of a challenge in the sleep department.  DS was a piece of cake but I think it was because I worked really hard at it and I only had one baby at the time. SO having said that....DD has been waking early like before 6am...a lot of the time I can feed her and she will go back down for an hour-ish before she actually wakes for the day at around 7.  However, lately we have been having trouble with her waking due to teeth coming in.  For a while I was getting her to bed by 6:30 and all of a sudden it was like night and day.  She would sleep from 630 - 430.  I would feed her and put her back down and she would wake again at 7ish.

Im having some trouble with our DC because yesterday she slept from 10-11:15 and then didn't go down until 5 and only slept for 20 minutes.  This I think royally screws up her night sleep.  She needs to be doing two naps OR one later nap.  On those days when she naps well I look to see what time she woke up sometimes its 2:30 sometimes is 330 and I make sure we do not go past the 4 hr mark.  So the days she wakes earlier I am very diligent about getting her to bed on time.

On the weekends she has been doing one nap usually from noon-2 or 1-3-ish.  I feel like it goes so much better on the weekends.  My DC will say they tried putting her to bed but she refused.  I just don't buy that and it pisses me off because Im the one that pays the dang price when she is over tired.  anyway...sorry that was long winded :)

Daycare transitioned DD for us.  She'll sleep about 1-3 there and on days at home she sleeps about 11-1.  This does mean she goes to bed a little earlier on days she naps earlier but we go with it.  Sometimes on non-DC days she'll take 2 shorter naps.  We're not strict on what time she takes her nap but we look for her sleep cues.  Sometimes the only cue will be DD deciding to quit whatever activity she's engaged in and just laying down.

That's about exactly what my kids did when they took 2 naps. When we transitioned to 1 nap, I'd try to keep them up until about 11 or 11:30. Then they would take 1 longer nap in the middle of the day.  Sometimes they would wake up halfway through and settle themselves back to sleep.  Gradually we pushed it back to about 12:30 or 1.  They sleep about 2.5-3 hours.

OP - make bedtime earlier for awhile and then try to slowly move nap a bit later.

We transitioned around 13 months. He goes down at 1230 for 2 hours. He is like clockwork. No more, no less.
