Just a for fun/out of curiosity to see what other families do. We are a family of option #2. Does your family kiss on the lips?

  • I guess if a baby wanted to kiss on the lips it wouldn't be weird, otherwise no lips.

It's funny because I never found my family as weird as lip kissers, but we do to the kids "kissy on the wippies!" And we get a big smooch lol. Everyone kisses on the lips except men to men, but my gram would get really mad if she didnt get a kiss on the lips, as if it didnt count lol. That is just where it stemmed from. She made my husband who was a boyfriend at the time kiss her on the lips! And he did it! I was shocked! Guess it is just how you're raised :)

  • I never knew families kissed on the lips til I saw DH do it to his mom. I told him it weirds me out cause I KNOW where those lips have been (wink wink) and then he stopped doing it. I've seen little kids do it to their parents & that's not nearly as odd to me but I won't be doing that w/ LO. She gets lots of cheek kisses though!
  • Only DH and i kiss on lips. MIL tries it with me and I find it odd. I've always felt kissing on lips was romantic/sexual, so I won't be kissing LO on lips.

  • No. DH and I do, I kiss the baby on the lips in a playful way sometimes, but it will stop when he's a little older (and I'm the only one who does that).

We aaaaallll do hugs and kisses on the cheeks (men - handshakes) every time we say hello and goodbye. I forget who it was in here, but we talked about this. It takes absolutely forever to leave a party lol.

  • Only DH and I kiss on the lips. Occasionally I'll give LO a kiss on the corner of his mouth/cheek.

It weirds me out when adults do it to eachother in a non-sexual way. I was at a wedding once where the bride kissed her father multiple times during the father daughter dance. More than she kissed her new husband... Awkward.
  • Dh and I kiss on the lips. We don't kiss them on the lips, nor do they kiss each other on the lips.

This. They do get kisses though, just mostly on the cheek

  • I will add that dh's extended family are all French Canadian, so when visiting it's always kisses on both cheeks.

  • People really don't kiss their babies on the lips? I don't do it to other adults, but I do with my own kids. Cheek kisses with other adults in my family. I didn't know so many people only cheek kiss their babies!
  • In my family, babies and very young kids will kiss on the lips. Now that I have a baby of my own though, I don't think I want anyone but DH and I to kiss her. Actually, the idea of my family kissing her doesn't bother me, but for some reason thinking of her kissing DH's family grosses me out. Adults in my family that live in NY kiss on the cheek. My family in AZ hug.
  • I'm always kissing my baby on the lips..he's do delicious I can't help it. But only DH and I are allowed to do that!!

  • Only immediate family, meaning me and DH kiss on the lips and we give LO little kisses on her lips, she giggles every time I do it. I haven't seen anybody in my family kissing somebody else's kids on the lips though.

SS - we don't lip kiss but it isn't because of germs.  Just because...I guess because we just don't.
^^ This is spot on what I was going to say. The only member of my family who ever tried to give mouth kisses was my grandmother, and she always licked her lips first to make sure they were extra slobbery. Thinking about it makes me shudder. The only person who is lucky enough to receive the gift of my lips on theirs is my husband.

  • We're more cheek kissers than lip kissers. I kiss Max alllllllll the time. I just can't resist!

  • We are cheek kissers with friends and family but DH and I both kiss DD on the lips. Not sure if that will continue past when she is a baby though. I always thought kissing (cheeks or lips) between anyone who isn't bf/gf, husband/wife etc was kind of weird but since moving to the Philly area it's just a culture thing here so I have started doing it as not to offend anyone.

  • My niece kisses on the lips most of the time (she's only 2 so that's okay with me) aside from that everyone is cheek kisses.

  • Dh and I kiss on the lips.  We do not kiss our DD, age 8, on the lips.  I did when she was a baby, though.  I kiss DS, 4 months, on the lips and I have seen my DD do so as well but DH does not.  Is that even an option in your poll :)?

  • The only person I am comfortable kissing on the lips is my DH.  In my family we hug before we leave but otherwise no affection is shown.  In DH family they hug/kiss on the cheeks and DH kisses his parents on the lips.  It creeps me the f out I'm sure because of the way I was raised.  I have a hard time with receiving kisses on the cheek but I don't mind giving them.  Pretty sure I won't be kissing LO on the lips but he has come at me with his mouth wide open while rubbing noses with him. Right now I think it's natural and he was just trying to put my nose in his mouth but missed.

I grew up in a house with a little to no affection shown physically. I go out of my way to kiss my husband and LO on the lips and cheeks, and to even give hugs, because I don't want my LO to grow up with a robot family. Her "aunt and uncle" will probably kiss her on the lips too, but we will all probably stop when she's a child and getting all the sicknesses at school.
This gave me the major sads.  Good for you for being a totally different parent then what was modeled for you!

My family is ridiculously affectionate.  Huggers, kissers, cuddlers. My parents are very "from the 60's".

My big sister and I will both still snuggle with my mom from time to time.  OK, I am a weirdo!
  • @KatCameBack‌ - My mom and sister will snuggle, and tease me for not being a snuggly person.
