Cloth Diapering

Need some support

I feel like someone is really trying to get me to quit BFing.  First the mastisis, then the thrush, then realizing that I have vasospasms due to Raynoud's Syndrome.  Now, mastitis appears to be rearing it's ugly head again. In the other breast!  I noticed my nipple was feeling sore a few days ago but just dismissed it, hoping it was just an irritation or something.  Yesterday I noticed my breast was really sore, too much to ignore but felt no clogged ducts. Last night I looked at my boob and there was the red streak!! Gosh damn it! I'm so pissed.  I just got back on my feet, finally feeling good again and now this happens.  Last time it took like 2 weeks for my boob to feel fully better and that was on antibiotics.  I noticed i was tired the last few days but thought it was due to LO being up every 2 hours again.  I started hot compresses and massage last night, went to bed early, got some lecithin and Vit C.  My mom is coming over later with garlic, potatoes and cabbage. Going to try to fight this w/o antibiotics. Especially since I don't have the flu symptoms yet, I'm just really weak and tired.

Not to mention...I was supposed to go out for a girls night with my friends for the first time PP!! Now I have to cancel. I have had these plans for over a month. :(  I am just at my wit's end!! I don't really have anyone to talk to about the difficulties of BFing..my mom did not BF and of course DH doesn't understand.

Re: Need some support

  • My goal was to make it to one year. I only nursed my daughter f for 8 weeks so I knew this might be tough. The more I read about formula, the less I want him to have it. I was contemplating doing partial weaning when I returned to work in a few weeks but my, maternity leave got pushed back to January 1. I was excited bc that means I could BF longer. My H Also wants me to BF longer. But he is hardly ever here so me getting sick is a, huge setback. I can't do the things that be to be done or give proper care to DD.

I wanted to quit last time, but I powered through it and was glad I did. I just don't know how many times I want to go, through this.

  • Big, huge, gigantic, creepy internet hugs. You have certainly been through the wringer. I have vasospasms too, they really suck. Try to keep your nips as warm as possible.
I don't know why you keep getting mastitis if you aren't feeling clogs. But I'd definitely try taking lecithin regularly for a while to see if it helps.
You can get through all this, and one day look back and see that you are a BFing rockstar! But if it all gets to be too much, there is no shame in stopping. Happy mommy = happy baby. But I hope you can kick this mastitis and go on to bf for a year.

  • So sorry you are having a rough time! It sounds like you know what to do, though. Fingers crossed that you nip this mastitis in the bud and things start going more smoothly for you.
  • Hugs Amores!  Mastitis is no picnic.  Take care of yourself.  Breastfeeding and everything that goes along with it is some of the hardest work I've ever done.
  • No advice, but lots of sympathy and hugs! >:D< Hang in there, and I hope you can overcome the mastitis quickly!!

  • Thank you all for your support. I've spent much of the day with potatoes on my boob. The red streaking is all but gone, so that's good. My boob is still sore, but that's to be expected. I'm not really sure what's going on with my nipple. It feels like he is rubbing against something. There are a few bumps around it that I'm not sure if they're blebs or Montgomery glands.
My dd was upset that today was so boring and said through tears, "life is so hard now with a, baby!" Lol. Ain't that the, truth!
