Metal allergy question?

After having kids, I have developed an allergy to metal, particularly my wedding rings. They make my finger super itchy and I get blisters. I really miss my rings. My friend suggested painting them with clear nail polish. I'm a little nervous about doing it. Anyone else experience something like this and can offer advice?

Re: Metal allergy question?

  • Are you sure it's an allergy to metal? I'm just asking, because I get similar symptoms under my engagement ring and band (worn on different fingers). They are wide bands and soap and water gets trapped underneath and can cause a lot of irritation similar to what you are describing.
If that is the case, just try to dry underneath them, and take them off and night and rub Vaseline around the ring areas.

If you are sure it's a metal allergy then I have no advice and I'm sorry :(.

I would probably take my rings to my jeweler and ask what I should do to protect my skin..

  • I'd had the same thing happening but I think it was more of what dmartin described. I just had to be conscious of moving my ring & washing all the soap & water off & taking it off before I'd run.

I've had the same issues with my ears though, since I was young. The nail polish works. I use it on cheap earrings. I don't know if I'd want to paint in on your nice rings. Maybe talk to a jeweler and see what they'd suggest
  • Not much help about the rings but I'm allergic to nickel. But I've out grown it thankfully. One day in middle school I started a itchy rash on my belly. Turned out after going to a dermatologist that snap/button thing on my pants had nickel and was causing it. I used clean nail polish on all my jeans. You can try it but it will wear off over time.
