Trying to Get Pregnant

Who did your HSG?

For those of you who have had one, did you do your HSG with your RE's office or through an obgyn? I have mine scheduled this week (yikes- nervous!) with my RE, but they said it might be cheaper with my obgyn. I called them, and they said they don't do it there, but might could refer me. The lady sounded like she was very confused about what she was talking about.

Anyhoo....who did yours?? TIA!

Re: Who did your HSG?

  • All testing with RE. Only got a referral from my OB.

  • Will your RE accept results from your OB's office? From what I've been reading, RE's often make patients re-do tests even if they have received recent results from an OB.

    Hysteroscopy, D&C 11/17/14
  • A Radiologist in the Radiology department at the hospital where my RE/IF clinic is.

My RE ordered the test and then I called Radiology to get in around the cycle day I needed to. The Radiologist went over the films with me after, and then I had a phone consult with my RE the next day, followed by an in person consult a couple of weeks later.

Will your RE accept results from your OB's office? From what I've been reading, RE's often make patients re-do tests even if they have received recent results from an OB.

They have accepted everything so far, but because my initial testing with my obgyn was on cd50-something, my RE is doing it all over again.

Thanks for the replies. In your experiences, was the hsg covered at all with your insurance?

  • My insurance covers everything related to diagnostics for fertility, so mine was covered. I don't have a co-pay or anything because I choose to see the doctors I do (my insurance is through H, who is AD military, and I have chosen to be seen by military doctors) so all I had to do was make the appointment and show up.

  • My RE did it and gave me my results as he was doing it. A week later I met with him to go over all my testing results and recommendations for treatment.
  • My OBGYN ordered the test for me and it was done by a radiologist at the hospital.
TTCed 7 months as a single woman
    Ovulatory PCOS / Progesterone deficient
    Married my wonderful husband 5/25/14
Starting back on the crazy TTC train October 2014
  • I had mine done by an OB and when I saw an RE they wanted to redo it. But if your RE is the one suggesting it, might as well look at cheaper options. But if it's not that much cheaper I would suggest sticking to the RE.
