TTC After a Loss

GTKY- What are you currently reading?

Hi Everyone!

I have become a reading machine since my loss, and I like knowing what other people are reading :-B  I almost feel like I want to start a bump book club type thing, but I don't know how we would do that seeing how everyone has different schedules and were not able to drink all the wine together ;)

I recently finished "This is where I leave you" (now a movie) and it was very good! There is a lot of loss/IF mentioned in the book, so just FYI if you're not okay with that!
image

Last night I finished "It's kind of a funny story" (also a movie!) By Ned Vizzini. I absolutely loved it.

So, tell me what you're currently reading, plan to read, or what are some books that you love?

Re: GTKY- What are you currently reading?

  • I'm rereading Gone Girl. I saw the movie over the weekend and picked it for book club so I need a reread.  I just finished Brain on Fire (memoir) and it was crazy but good.   I'm listening to Fatal Error which is a decent thriller.   On my ereader I just started Angel Killer.
  • Loading the player...
  • I'm reading "Outlander".

"Love is what makes pain bearable." - I love you my Angels.

  • Just finished the Wayward Pines series, which is a three book series by Blake Crouch. It was really good and apparently they are turning it into a TV series, so that will be cool. I have been looking for something new to read because I too have been a reading machine since my loss. Thanks for starting this thread @rslh10 !

  • I started reading Caroline Manzo's book because I'm a RHONJ junkie but I think I'm going to download Gone Girl next. I want to see the movie this weekend too and I always like to see how books and their movies are in comparison.

  • I am reading John Grisham's Sycamore Row... @bookishmama‌ recommended Sarah Jio to me and I've read three of her books and really enjoyed... I really like the game of thrones books too! I'm all over the place with what I like ;)

  • My parents got a bunch of free e-books a while ago. Mostly self published first in a series stuff.
    I've read -
The Eden Plague by David Vandyke. Pretty good, interesting premise, though the end was a little rushed.
The Change by Teyla Branton. Also decent, though it did drag at some parts.
Graveyard Shift by Angela Roquet. It was fun, but definitely written by a self published author. Lots of repetition.

I also read The Memory Keepers Daughter. I borrowed it from work. I finished reading it because I'm stubborn, but it was a really frustrating read.

And yes, I read a lot lol

Just finished Lena Dunham's book. It was okay. Now I'm reading Shotgun Lovesongs by Nikolas Butler. He's a Wisconsin author (like me!) and the book has won a bunch of awards so I thought I'd check it out. So far it's lovely.

For anyone who likes YA, new adult, or women's fiction, I have 2 words for you: Rainbow Rowell. I've read all her books. Love her.

  • @rslh10: I'm so glad you started this threat...I was just thinking about doing the same thing (great minds... :-) )

This is super cheesy, but I'm reading Nicholas Sparks "The Longest Ride".
After this MC, I've been feeling so doom and gloom and haven't been able to pull me out of it, so last night, I decided I needed a good love story to lift my spirits. I started reading last night and am half way through already...it's cheesy, but good and just what I needed.

  • My reading is usually largely YA. Love it! I'm finishing Just One Year by Gayle Forman tonight. I started Maze Runner, but gave the copy I was reading to a student, so I'll be waiting to finish that. Next up will be Exile by Kevin Emerson, Brown Girl Dreaming by Jaqueline Woodson, and Sisters by Raina Telgemeier.

If any of you use Goodreads, I'd be up for connecting there!
I'm a big YA fan as well.  I liked the Maze Runner trilogy, mostly because all three books were very different.   I liked Hunger Games as well, but all three books had a similar feel, not so with Maze Runner.
  •  For anyone who likes YA, new adult, or women's fiction, I have 2 words for you: Rainbow Rowell. I've read all her books. Love her.
Agreed!  I don't know how many books she has but Eleanor and Park as well as Fangirl are both great.
  • I just finished Gone Girl as well. I am going see the movie next weekend with my best friend, who also loved the book.
I am going to read my daughter's book that they read in school Esperanza Rising. It's a youth fiction book, but she really wants me to read it, so I shall.

I really do love reading YA fiction though. I guess that's the high school teacher in me, lol.

I am gearing up to teach Their Eyes Were Watching God again... my favorite book of all time.

  • @crimpgirl‌ if you're reading the book, don't bother with the show. I was super excited for it because I read the book a couple of years ago, but the differences were big enough that I found them extremely distracting and stopped watching halfway through episode three.
Also, be prepared - plot twists abound in the coming pages!
