TTC After a Loss

PSA - It's okay to be an AW!

The board has been really, really, really slow for awhile now with hardly any new posts that are not either an intro or some sort of check-in.  To try to get more people posting new discussions, I thought I would post a series of PSAs on posts that we no longer see on this board. The following is the first in this series:

It's okay to be an AW!!!!!!!

Some of you may be wondering what an AW is. An AW is an "attention whore."  An AW is someone that is saying "look at me".  Some AWs can be bad which is why it gets a bad rap:

On TTCAL, being an AW can be a good thing (I'll be posting a total AW post in a bit).

So, what is an AW discussion?  I tell you by giving you examples of some great posts that people used to share OUTSIDE of a check-in (yes, updates on your life can be given as a separate, new thread).

For example, we had one of our members who shared her wedding planning with us. She was engaged for a long time. A lot goes into planning a wedding. We got posts about flowers, about the dress, about bride maids dresses, food, venue . . .  about anything and everything.

She AW'd her wedding a lot but it was cool and we all knew what was going on in her life.

We had someone else who had goats. We had someone else that had rabbits and goats. We got a lot of updates on the animals.

We have had people run marathons, half marathons, and do other amazing things. We knew this because they shared with the entire board.

We may have even had someone take a bar exam and pass it. The sort of AW'd the shiznit out of that one.

Those are just some examples. There are a lot of other things that can be AW'd. Maybe you are buying a house. Or a car. Or got a great deal on a great pair of shoes (might be reaching).

Maybe you went to your first RE appointment or have a plan in place (I really don't feel appointment updates are AW since they are 100% related to TTCAL and that is what this board is about but . . . I've noticed that a lot of these seem to end up in check-ins only).

Maybe you got a new pet.

You get it.

If you have something you think we would be interested in, share.

I know this is a dangerous one to start with because some people can take AWing over the top. Don't worry. The worst thing that could happen is someone might call you an AW.

  • as a newer member i must admit im still scared to post seperate threads because im still learning what goes on a board and what needs its own post. and i hate being wrong about that!!  i posted once and some said it should go on an already existing board and some said it was cool for seperate but i legit got anxiety about it!!i mean it was like two weeks after my mmc so i was anxious anyways so maybe that just increased it. But like after i saw gone girl i definitely wanted to talk about it with others but didnt wanna start a seperate board about it...but..im taking this as permission to post away..whoo hooo..thanks..u may have just created a monster lool
@negritosmami - I think a discussion about Gone Girl would be awesome!

I'm generally scared to start a discussion. The last one was me getting locked in a bathroom stall at work. Maybe I will consider being more of a AW :)

Personally I really enjoyed that one!
