Shower Thank you card etiquette

I was just wondering.... when it come to what cards you use for the TY cards for your baby shower.  We have a lot of left over thank you cards from our wedding.  They just say a basic Thank You on them (so not overly weddingish).  However, pretty much all the people that will be recieving this TY card received it after our wedding.  Would this be ok?  Also, we have a bunch of general TY cards w/ flowers or other things pictured on the front, would this be OK?  Or as what was typically used for other baby showers that I attended, one of those baby type of thank you cards.  My shower is this weekend and I would like to have these ready so that I would start writing TYs next Mond.

Re: Shower Thank you card etiquette

  • I don't think the card itself matters, it's the expression of gratitude inside.

If you're worried about using the same cards - how long ago did you send out your wedding thank yous?  Personally, if someone sent me the same card, I would probably recognize it but not really know where I knew it from.

  • I would think that it wouldn't matter what kind of cards you use as long as you send them.  My sister made my shower invitations and she also made me matching TY cards, but if she didn't, I would have just sent regular TY cards.
  • I don't think it matters. If you have cards and want to use them up...go for it!
  • You might wait and see if the hostess has not already gotten them for you. Around here we play a game where guests fill out their addresses on envelopes & draw their name for a prize. That way the mother to be/bride does not have to address all the envelopes and then the hostess provides Thank you notes.
  • I don't think there's an etiquette on the type of card.  I used a plain wedding-thank you card for the hostess gifts then gave everyone a more girly thank you card for the gifts.  I tend to have some card-snobs as friends so I splurged a bit but I've also gotten simple notes on baby stationery as well.
