2nd Trimester

Right side pain..please help!!!

So I have a bit of a long story...starting before I got pregnant (about 2 months before) I started having right sided pain.   I thought this was probably just a kidney infection or uti and kind of ignored it a little ( I know horrible)  Finally about a month before I got pregnant I went to the doctor.  The tests showed no uti or kidney infection, so she ordered an ultrasound.  Literally the moment I left the dr's office the pain stopped and stayed gone for about two months.   Now the pain is back ( has been for about 1 1/2 months).   The pain is located in the middle of my right side and radiated a bit to the front and back...but not down to the pelvic area. I ended up in the ER because the pain was so bad and my dr was out of town for the week.  The ER did an ultrasound of my entire midsection (pancreas, kidneys, pelvic area, gallbladder, everything...and didn't find anything wrong.  They told me this was probably constipation pain and to take miralax.   I started the miralax and after one week was in such severe pain I could barely walk.    I decided to stop taking it.   After a few days the pain eased.  I have been off of the miralax for about 2 1/2 weeks.   Now for the past couple of days the pain is back...and pretty severe.   Any suggestions on what this could be?    I don't believe it is constipation because I am going to the bathroom...and this has been a problem for several months!!

  • If the doctors don't know, then I don't see how an internet stranger could help. I'm really sorry you're dealing with this.

My first suggestion would be to make sure your diet is clean and you are drinking tons of water. At least 80 oz a day. Keep a food journal and pay attention to what you eat before symptoms flare up. I would also see a chiropractor because sometimes weird spinal issues can cause these types of phantom pain symptoms. I would also go to another doctor for a second opinion - a more specialized doctor like a urologist or gastroenterologist would be my pick. Don't ignore your body, something is going on here.

  • I pulled a muscle in my right side just before getting pregnant and the pain at ill comes and goes. It is a sharp pain but typically mine doesn't last along time? Hope you figure it out!
  • I had gallbladder attacks all through my first pregnancy and then the organ removed after delivery. Miralax in no way should put you in pain because it is an osmotic laxative not a stimulant. I would see a specialist for a second opinion. I would also see a chiropractor who could help align anything pinched or cramped (yes, even organs). Good Luck!
  • One more thing! Take note of your diet and the correlation to pain. Did you eat fats and have pain? (That was my trigger with the gallbladder) high amounts of sugar? Do as much deducing as you can.
  • When I went to the ER they did an ultrasound of my gallbladder and said no gallstones...but they also said that doesn't mean you don't have a bad gallbladder.   I tried to keep a journal for about two weeks.  I wrote down what I ate/drank, when I used the bathroom, and what symptoms I had....the results were all over the place.  Sometimes I can eat a slice of pizza and have horrible pain, then two days eat the same thing and have no pain. Likewise, I could eat a fruit salad and be in pain for an hour, then eat something a little fatty for dinner and be in no pain.   I feel like the doctors, at this point, are just trying different things to see if it helps (considering I've had all the tests that are safe to have while pregnant).   This is a crampy feeling, almost feels like my kidneys or intestines.   Do you think it is possible to have some sort of intestinal issue, possibly when food is digesting thru?
  • Kinda of crazy...but have you tried gas x? During my first pregnancy I had horrible gas pains..but not thinking it was gas bc I was not going around feeling like I need to fart or actually farting everywhere. Sometimes has pains can give is severe pain and sometimes on one side. Next time it happens I suggest taking 2 gas a pills and laying on your left side and seeing if it helps. Give it about 10-15 mins when trying. I totally had these symptoms and thought it was may more serious...turns out just gas
