Speaking of names.... Am I the only one?

Since we've been talking about/suggesting/vetoing baby names a lot lately. Please tell me I am not the only one that is dying to know what some regular posters' first name is? I know a lot of people want to be anonymous and all which I get but for some reason, I'd love to know what @sugahcookie01 first name is!

  • @mrsthadababy‌, same here! As a kid I was really upset I could never get any name souvenirs. I really wanted a mug for some reason. Thankfully I've gotten over it. Though it's still annoying to have to constantly spell my very common name for people then listen to all their comments on the weird spelling. Half the time I just don't bother to correct them anymore.

  • No souvenirs for this lady also. Which is also partially why we are giving our daughter a common nm spelling. My given name is generally the nm for Amanda so if a name souvenir does exist, it is under Mandy but never Mandi. :(

  • I'm Erica!
I was always frustrated growing up because people tried to make it into a unique spelling. I was like, nope, just the plain old spelling.

  • Hello, I'm Samarina, typically go by Rina.
My parents made it up (Samantha and Sabrina compromise, sounded like a name they had heard while in India). No vacation souvenirs/collectibles for me!

  • I'm Kelly. The girl whose grandparents lived across the street from my grandparents had my same first and middle name, but reversed. Other than her, I never knew another Kelly until I worked at a hardware store the summer after high school. There was a big burly male coworker who was also Kelly. I always found it odd that despite having a common name, I was always the only one in school. In my adult life, I know a few and it still throws me for a loop.

  • I'm Kristina.  No mugs or keychains with my name either - everything is always Cr or Chr.  My mom wanted the Swedish spelling because my grandma is Swedish, but no one ever spells it right.  Combined with a German maiden name that no one could ever get right either, I was constantly spelling both first and last names for people.

Luckily, DH has a very simple last name, so at least that part is easy now.  We agreed on traditional spellings for our kids long before we were even thinking about TTC.

  • I'm Sara.

Growing up there were always several other Sara/Sarah's in my classes, but of course there is nothing you can shorten Sara to for a nm. That is the reason I am adamant about naming my kid something that has nm options. I've always wanted a nm for myself!

So interesting how we've each been influenced by our own name.

  • Anne pronounced Annie. My mom didn't feel the "i" was necessary. So I'm also in the camp of no unique spellings for babies. I sometimes spell my name with an "i" because I HATE being called Ann.
  • Hi everyone, Beth here, short for Elizabeth!

  • Love this, as I am getting lots of ideas for girl names!  We can't decide on one, so many good ones to choose from :)

My name is Aimee sounds like amy not ah-may. I won't give my kids a unique spelling because I hated spelling mine growing up. Mine is french ( I am french) but I use the English pronounciaton which caused issues in my french high school I was forever being called ah-may. I had a very very french maiden name and when I got married I got a really easy last name, I wanted to change the spelling to amy but my mom said she would be heartbroken.
I think we have discussed your name before.  My sister is also an Aimee also pronounced Amy.  I happen to love you name! I didn't realize there was another pronunciation for it.
