Old Clothes - What to do with them?

I have bags and bags of clothes from 0-3 up to 24 months for boys and shoes. I have tried various Facebook groups where folks can post photos and sell their no longer needed baby items and I have sold a few things that way. I am just having a difficult time trying to get rid of all these clothes and a crib that is in excellent condition too. Anyone have any suggestions? I have not tried Craigslist yet. Worse case scenario, I will donate it all to the local Goodwill but I was trying to get a few bucks for the items I have if possible.

  • Do you have a children's resale shop near you? Like Once Upon a Child?

  • I've "donated" quite a bit to friends too. There are always shelters, daycares that serve low incomes, etc. that would love to take the clothing.

  • Is there a consignment shop nearby?  I'd do that or donate them.
  • I agree with the PP's that Once Upon A Child or any other local consignment shops would take them. I never tried to sell old clothes/baby items, I have always given them to friends or pregnant co-workers that could really use the stuff. Goodwill is always a good option too.

  • I've never tried consignment, but my mom and I do community garage sales.  For items that are more worn or I don't want to bother selling for whatever reason (sometimes it's just too much stuff or I want it to go away quicker), I donate to a women's shelter.  They are always my first choice for donating women and child items.  I'm surprised you are having trouble with the crib.  I would have thought a Facebook group would yield results for that.  I'm planning to put some of my maternity clothes on a local Facebook group.

  • I did a consignment shop once earlier on. I took my son's bassinet over there and they sold it for me me but seems like I didn't get what I wanted. I think I got $15 for it and I am sure they sold it for a lot more than that. I may end up just donating the clothes. Thanks for the suggestions!

We do a rummage sale once a year - combined with other families/friends, so it's not just us.

ETA: whatever doesn't sell, goes to Good Will or a local clothing supply closet

I do everything--Facebook groups, craigslist, consignment shops, consignment sales.  I have recently bought some items for my kids on Ebay--all I can say if you are reselling on Ebay, your items should be in good condition and that you can ship it in a timely manner (it is online with a paypal account, and they will rate you).

Here is a website to look up consignment sales which is one of favorite ways to resell.  If you google consignment mommies, it will come up.

  • I've sold them at a local biannual consignment sale, given them away or donated.  I am planning a yard sale and will sell some there too.

  • I know there are consignment shops that will allow you to trade in items for new things you need. If you don't know anyone who needs baby items, you can always donate them to Goodwill or a church who will help those who don't have the means to buy new.
