Can someone explain why we need to drink soo much water? I'm always getting told to drink a gallon a day, which I simply can't! How does this effect the baby?

Did your doctor not explain the importance of staying hydrated?
Your body has to replace all the fluid that protects your baby on a daily basis. Your kidneys are also processing all of baby's bodily waste along with yours. Your blood volume has gone up. All of this plus the normal non-pregnancy related functions that your body performs every day require a ton of water.
The only way water companies get to throw holiday parties is by the increase in revnue that occurs when pregnant women are told to drink more water. It's for the holiday joy of everyone working at the water company. Do your part.
I knew there was a water conspiracy!
Don't forget the toilet paper industry. After all it does increase your bathroom use as well.

Now you can have your water and drink your beer too!
Oh, honey. You know this isn't just a pregnancy thing.. It's a life thing, right? And I hate to tell you, but if you weigh more than 130lbs, then a gallon just isn't enough anyway. Also, as a human, you are made up of mostly water. Suck it up, drink water, and don't be an idiot.
ETA: My math didn't work yesterday. But my point still stands. Drink 1/2 your weight (in pounds) in ounces. Like, if you weigh 150lbs, drink 75oz of water. If you weigh 260lbs, by all means, drink a gallon.

Wasn't there a post a while back about Dasani and how drinking it makes you more thirsty? Full circle?
Actually, most people do not need to drink a gallon of water, even while pregnant. If your urine is light yellow to clear, you are hydrated just fine. Another rule of thumb, drink half your body weight in ounces per day. But really, most people don't drink enough water and dehydration is never good so that's why it is recommended!

You can drink too much water. If you have to force water down your throat or it makes you feel sick, stop. You shouldn't just down it all at once either. Don't just chug a gallon of water and think it's helping. Drink a little bit all day long and you'll be fine.
It's weird that anyone wouldn't want to drink water right now though. I'm thirsty all the time. And hungry. And tired. And now I want watermellon... and cake.
