death of a pet

Well my parents had to put a horse down today but he wasn't just any horse. My dad bought him right before he was 1. That was over 29 yrs ago. His name was Bullet.
My brothers & I competed on him at various times in his life. My son got to ride him a few times.
I'm having a hard time dealing with his passing. I'm 30 so my parents bought him when I was a baby. My little brother rodeoed on him the most & hes really taking it rough. I'm also really close to my brother.
Sorry if I'm rambling. I just needed to vent so I don't lose it in front of my kids. (Fighting back tears)
I think tonight I'm dumping the kids with dh so I can go check on my brother.

You know all good animals have their day but you're just never really ready for it.

How hard. I'm so sorry you're dealing with it. I'd definitely leave the kids with DH and spend sometime with your brothers. So sorry

I am sorry.  That is a really long time to love and bond with a pet.  I hope you and your brothers find some peace.  In the meantime, stick together and mourn with them.

Thanks everyone!! I'm trying to get kids down. I might go outside & bawl my eyes out while hugging my sons horse.

Thank you so much!! We are doing really well now. I went over to my parents and had an awesome visit with my little brother before my parents got home. We laughed about everything & everywhere we took Bullet. My parents showed up later and joined in while we played with the baby horses.
We traveled all over the country with that amazing horse!! He always put a smile on my face.
Horses are amazing animals that steal a part of your heart!! I hope that one day my kids can have a horse in their life like him.
