Trouble TTC

Question for PCOS ladies...TMI warning

All my life I've had irregular cycles, but still manage to ovulate about once every 45-60 days. Then 9 years ago I started to bleed like a period, only the bleeding didn't stop...ever :( At first it was just a light period and then it got progressively worse to the point where I would suddenly squirt/shoot blood without warning (I had to wear adult diapers). This blood also had large clots in it which I could feel while they were coming out. At this point I was DX with PCOS, but I have never heard of anyone else going through this who had it. Can any of you relate? About 4 years ago, all the bleeding stopped thankfully (except once every 30-49 days for my period). I think what stopped it was a combo of things: I got a D&C and was put on Provera, I lost 120 lbs, I managed my blood sugar with a better diet, and I started exercising everyday. I also joined a success club which shared success stories on how to achieve goals. Some were veterans who limped or had had polio and could now walk without a cane or brace. Others were business people who ran successful empires. Now I'm experiencing some spotting for most of my cycle, and this is how things started in the beginning for me the last time. I'm so afraid of going through all of that again, so I've been eating better and started taking Provera again. I've lost about 4 dress sizes and all of my vitals are stellar again, but still the spotting (grrr!) Is anyone else going through this?

Re: Question for PCOS ladies...TMI warning

  • Sorry, no similar experience. But having such long and irregular periods does not help chances of conceiving as it is. Constant or irregular bleeding/spotting indicates a hormonal imbalance at least and perhaps something physically awry with the "hardware." I recommend seeing an RE who will have the expertise to figure out what's going on hormonally as well as identify anything that could cause bleeding in your anatomy.

Congrats for making such healthy lifestyle choices. Sounds like the next step will be to get the help of a medical expert to get you some healthy cycles. :)

  • ok, thx ladies. I had a biopsy done a while back and it wasn't cancerous or anything but the endo lining was thick from ultrasounds. I keep wondering if my diet was really the fix to this all along (I kind of fell off the wagon a year ago). I guess getting poked and prodded some more is better than the alternative, lol :)
  • Has your doc mentioned anything about endo? It can cause bleeding like that as well. It will not necessarily show up on an u/s. I have endo and PCOS and when I was a teen, I would spot and bleed b/w periods. It's another avenue to check out/look into, but it can only "officially" be dx with a LAP.

  • @BlueFairy5 yes, I share the same distrust of docs in general being that I have a couple alternative health clinics. But the obgyn I have now is really good, and I think I'll go to see him yet again. I know I should probably trust doctors more, but I've just met too many dingbats out there, heehee
  • @megrae12 They checked me for endo the last time and it was a no, but that could be it this time around. Thanks for the advice and relating. When this all started, I would describe my symptoms and a lot of doctors would accuse me of lying and being a hypochondriac! So good to hear that someone else knows what I'm going through.
  • You said you were checked for endo last time...did they do laparascopic surgery? Even doing a D&C cannot show if there is endo in the pelvic cavity.

I had spotting anywhere from 5-9 days, then a period for a day or two, then spotting for 3-7 days after, so some months I would be spotting half the month. It turned out to be caused by a combo of endo and a stenotic cervix. A stenotic or stiffened/partially closed cervix can cause blood to build up in the uterus, and I definitely felt every. little. clot. move through it, ouch. Just brought that up because perhaps the dilation you had could have helped a cervical issue but after time it starts to return? (RE said about 1/3 of the time the issue would return after dilation, which I had this summer). Also that can be a cause of endo because it forces blood out the tubes into the pelvic cavity.
