TTC after 35

How Did You Pick Your RE?

So I mentioned in the thread further down that I am going to be headed to an RE soon.  The teeny tiny optimist left in me says I won't need the appointment, but I know that it can take awhile to get in and I want to target December.  So did you get a referral from your OB or based on recommendations? Another way?   I have no recommendations to go off of, so should I just call my OB and ask them? I'm assuming they will send me to the place where DH got his SA but not certain.  I've been here over a year and I still feel clueless.

Grammar people: Is it an RE or a RE?  I should know that too :/

I am still kind of working on this (on tomorrow's to do list), but I asked one of MH's coworkers who has one who she used and then tlc35 recommended that I go to 3T and ask in a post if anyone had one in my area that they would recommend.  2 women there responded with different providers, but the same practice.  There is also an IF board that I would assume would have knowledgable ladies.  One of the providers that was recommended has the highest Health Grade rating for an RE in my area, so I am going to try and get in with her.

There are 2 practices near me for RE's and one is bigger (and more established) than the other.  Right now I am living in one city and working in the next city over which is a bit over an hour drive.  I chose the bigger one since it has offices in both cities.  I suspect there are several TTGP members who go to this office as well.
ETA: Asking on 3T or IF is always a good idea as well

@Lesliem0901‌ yes! I'm Interested in your recommendation! I'm looking into Michigan Reproductive Medicine right now.
  • OK. Highly, highly recommend Dr. Wolfe at RMA in Troy. Dr. Miller is my primary (I see both of them depending who's working), but Dr. Wolfe did my actual procedure and I love her.  Best demeanor; gives hugs; makes you feel special; competent and super nice. Dr. Miller is very competent too just not so warm and fuzzy.

Good luck! Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions/ concerns.

  • Thanks! I did make an appt at mrm but only because that is who my Ob works with. I go to Generations. Was that the RE you started with (based off siggy). I have BCBS but I also have no IF coverage so not sure if that matters
  • I'm happy that you got a rec!!

  • I realize its late in the game, but my advice (if you dont have a personal preference) is to pick whichever one is more convenient to you. If you do end up cycling with them you will be going in for blood work on a REGULAR basis. I only did two IUI's before but I was there A LOT. I personally liked going in for early morning blood draws on my way to work, but it also helped the clinic was on my commute. Just my .02

  • With my crappy insurance I don't need referrals. I simply called up my union insurance and asked them for a participating RE. I went to that doc twice & decided he wasn't the one for me. A few months passed & I had my annual obgyn apt. My obgyn recommended another RE to me who happened to also be in my insurance network. Because I now have a diagnosis I have to pay oop. I love my current RE but my pickets don't like him

I found my RE via my OB but you can compare RE stats at SART.org   My insurance covered nothing so I wanted the best.  The RE recommended to me happened to have the highest SART scores in my region so I stayed with him.  Also if you are in a certain city try asking over on Pregant after IF boards etc... to see if anyone has recs in your area!

    Good luck!
