2nd Trimester

back pain

So at night when I'm sleeping my back starts killing me. Its fine most of the day but I wake up in excruciating pain all through out the night. I have a pregnancy pillow and I also have another pillow to support my back but it doesn't seem like any thing helps! I don't know what to do..

Re: back pain

  • I just started a prenatal yoga dvd....it's been a few weeks now, and my pain in my back as well as my hips is almost gone!

  • Have you seen a chiropractor? This would be my very first thought. During pregnancy your body changes a lot and you grow in a way that puts a lot of stress on your pelvis and back. Keeping yourself aligned can help so much. It also helps with having an easier delivery and fetal positioning. I went to see a chiropractor for the first time at 6 weeks. Then about every 8 weeks since. I will have closer appointments as my due date gets nearer.

Does you back hurt the same way when you lay in other places like your couch or a spare bed? It could also be your mattress.

  • I have not been to a chiropractor as I didn't know you could while pregnant. I think I'll make an appointment to go to one. I haven't tried lying on any thing other then my bed and on my recliner. Thank you for the advice. I think I'll also search for a yoga DVD. I have regular yoga DVDs but I haven't wanted to try those because they are not for pregnancy.
  • Look for a chiropractor who is trained in the Webster technique - they will be very pregnancy friendly.  Planning on setting up a monthly adjustment with my chiro until the third tri.  I went through one pregnancy not know that hip and back pain is not required - not doing that again.
