Toddler and nb twins stroller question

For those who had kiddos before the twins...our guy will just turn three when the twins arrive. How did you do the whole stroller thing? Im thinking more than likely we will have one in the stroller as well as Robbie, then wear the other in a moby or ergo. We did pick up a little attachment thats a seat and handle bar that attaches to a stroller so he can ride if we dont want to wear a baby, but it seems like it might be a little awkward to use at times.  On big trips like to the zoo we probably will just do the double and an umbrella stroller since it would be two people pushing. Any other ideas? Is a bigger triple a better idea? Our toddler has some dev delay and has some issues walking distance, so having him just walk isn't much of an option.

We either use two strollers (if DH is with me), I wear a baby and then have one baby in double stroller with my two year old, I push the double with the babies and pull a wagon with my toddler (usually to the park), or two year old walks if it's short distances... For grocery shopping I push a double SnG and toddler goes in the cart, which I pull behind. Whatever you choose, you pretty much have to be Super Mom! Not a lot of great options when it comes to a triple (most have terrible reviews, are heavy, and expensive) but I'm thinking about getting one bc we go on a lot of walks and now the twins are 5 mo, so starting to go in stroller seats rather than car seats.
  • We have a tricycle w a parent handle. We started using that almost exclusively before the twins were born anyway bc our oldest stopped wanting to sit in a stroller.

We opted for a stroller frame in the beginning which obviously doesn't accommodate an older kid. Now for short walks we use a wagon that I'll pull for the twins and then push the big one on the trike/parent handle.

Dd will be 3y8m or so when the twins arrive. By the time we are going on any great walks in the spring she will be four and I don't really have any concerns about her walking, but if need be I'll wear a baby and she can ride in the SBS, or if she just needs a quick break she can sit on the "foot" of the stroller (a BOB).
Eta at the grocery store she will be able to walk and I'll probably use the SNG.

  • I thought we'd just use a double with the twins and a single for our toddler for zoo type outings.  Or I'd stick him (he was 2 1/2 when the twins arrived) in the stroller with one twin and wear a twin in whatever wrap/carrier I had.  And then I realized I didn't love baby wearing on walks (it was summer and so sweaty) and I wanted to WALK like power walk without worrying about bouncing too much.  So I found a Mountain Buggy Triple Jogger on craigslist and it's my best friend.  It's so heavy to get in and out of the van (we don't have a garage to store it).  The canopy isn't awesome at all.  It takes up the entire sidewalk so it's totally not practical for any other use but walking around the neighborhood.  BUT I love going on walks and it kind of saved my sanity.

I think you just have to think about how much you'd use a giant triple and go from there.  If you're not a walker, or just want comfort for a weekend adventure then I'd go with a double instead.  It's probably not worth the price of a triple (or storage space) for only occasional use.  We also have a mountain buggy in a double version (also from craigslist) and I bought one of those "stroller boards" to hook on the back for our toddler.  It worked great at the beach this summer when I knew our triple wouldn't fit on the boardwalk.

  • It sounds like you already have the Junior X-rider attachment, which is my go-to recommendation. I have found that it works very well with the BJ City Select, BUT now that Uppababy has essentially cloned it for the new Vista, I'd probably go with that instead.
