Trying to Get Pregnant

Pregnitude

Hi ladies!
We've been ttc#2 since April. My doctor suggested I take Pregnitude due to my short cycles. Has anyone taken this, or know of someone who has?
I had my pharmacy order it for me, should be in tomorrow.
TIA!

  • I'm taking it now. I don't know if it's done any good really, but I paired it with clomid and I o'd so that's something. I did take it before clomid though and never O'd. It's probably just a good supplement to have around, but it is a bit pricy.

  • I've never heard of pregnitude. I agree with @cstuart07‌ about the questionable name choice. It sounds like something you might see an infomercial late night for. But if your obgyn is suggesting it....

Do you mind if I ask if you had difficulty conceiving your first child? I know April seems like ages a go, but really, six-seven months is not very long ttc. Are you nursing still? I've been trying to conceive #2 since June and my cycles have been irregular due to breastfeeding. I had short LPs for the first couple of months after I got my period back.

Prior to getting pregnant with my son we had a miscarriage and a chemical pregnancy. I've since had another chemical pregnancy. With my son it took us about 8 months before we got our positive test.
    I am not breast feeding.
She didn't think my cycles were too short, that's actually me (sorry should have clarified). She suggested the Pregnitude if I wanted to try it.

It has two ingredients; folic acid and miso-something or other (which is in the B-vitamin family). She said it promotes regular, healthier cycles. After reading about it I'm going to give it a try.

I was just hoping to hear from others who have used it. :)

    Thanks!

My RE recommended it too, but this was after a ton of tests to determine what exactly is going on with my body. I know it can help with PCOS but considering the fact that you don't even have a diagnosis, this sounds really irresponsible on your doctor's part.

FYI, for people who have a legitimate reason for taking it, Pregnitude is just a combination of myo-inositol and folic acid. I just bought the myo-inositol and I take prenatals. It saves a lot of money.

This. My RE recommended it along with metformin for my PCOS. I also side eyed the name so I didn't end up taking it. The metformin did the trick for me, so I didn't end up needing pregnitude.

OP, how "long" are your cycles? Are you regularly confirming ovulation through temping? If you are having fairly regular, ovulatory cycles, taking supplements may do more harm than good. It can take a healthy couple it to a year to conceive, and you are still well within that time frame. Impatience does not equal infertility.

  • Pregnitude is a combination of Folic acid and Myo-Inositol, and is seriously over priced IMO. If you are already taking PNVs, you are probably getting the required amount of folic acid. I bought approx. 450g of Myo Inositol powder for about $50. Pregnitude is $45 for 60 2g packets. I feel like they charge you an arm and a leg for the the prepackaging and the cutesie name.

Myo-inositol. And actually it's not. It was originally categorized as a B-vitamin but has since been changed as it is actually made by the body and is not an essential nutrient.

Part of the reason it is suggested for those with PCOS is because it is made from glucose, and for those that are insulin resistant and it could help with insulin signals. There are a few other conditions that studies have seen positive results. But it is much cheaper to buy it separately and not in that form with the annoying name.

Thanks g or the info!!! I have more research to do. :)

This is good to know, because pregnitude is expensive and the name is really, really stupid.

  • I've been taking it since last November, as recommended by my obgyn.  After taking it 3 months, I finally started ovulating for the first time in over a year. After seeing an RE last month and starting on metformin, she told me to keep taking it if I wanted to since I've seen results with it. Everyone's different, though. Good luck!

  • @Juicer82‌ you never answered my question about the length of your cycles and if you are confirming ovulation through temping.

Sorry!!  Got busy with the kiddo and husband yesterday.
My cycles have been 23-25 days.
I have not been confirming ovulation... that's something else she told me to do.  However because of my cycles being pretty consistent she thinks I am ovulating.

It's more to determine when you're ovulating.  In your case, it'll tell you if you're having a short FP (Follicular Phase), a short LP (Luteal Phase), or if both phases are fine.

    -------------

This. In your case, I would STRONGLY recommend temping for a few cycles and seeing when you are ovulating. If you are having an LP shorter than 9 days I would probably see an RE.

There's no way they consulted any actual women when they named that drug.
