False Positive QuantiFERON TB test?

I just finished up at my OB office. Baby looks great and is moving around like crazy!

But, I had to redo my QuantiFERON TB test. The OB I saw said the results came back positive but he believes it's most likely a false positive since I have not experienced any symptoms and I am considered low risk for contracting TB.

Still kind of freaking out and was wondering if any other M15 ladies have ever received a false positive - pregnant or otherwise?

Re: False Positive QuantiFERON TB test?

  • I've never even heard of TB screening in pregnancy. It's definitely not a standard of care, especially in low risk populations -- I'm wondering why your OB even ran that test!

But as to your actual question -- with any test there can be false positives. I've never had a false positive TB test (done annually for my job) but I've always had the skin testing. I would try not to worry! Shame on your OB for ordering that test.

I think it may be standard of care in this practice because they do service large population of newly immigranted women.

I usually have a PPF done annually for my job as well but have not had a test since last April.

  • @kella0708 That makes sense. Care should technically be individualized to the patient, not the practice - but I can forgive that.
