Vicious Fleabags

Spill it, ladies.  How are your babies and your pets doing?  Bonus points for pictures!

M loves the animals so much.  He can't get enough of them.  We're starting to work on "soft touch," since he's getting grabby.  The dog doesn't mind much because she has short fur, but he can get a handful of the cat's fur.  Does anyone have any advice for handling this at the current stage?  Right now I'm doing a "no" and redirect, and using his hand to show soft petting.

The cat and the dog are both amazingly tolerant of the baby.  The dog just walks off when she's had enough, but she'll bring him tennis balls to throw!  The cat only leaves when the baby tries to teeth on his tail.  Otherwise he loves chillin' with the baby!

  • Our dog keeps his distance especially when she goes to pet him. It's pretty funny because DD is all smiles and he backs away.
  • The cat is totally indifferent - I'm not sure LO even knows there is a cat in the house. But LO and the dog love each other! He laughs at the dog so heartily, more than he laughs at anything else. He even did his first "sort of" crawl in an attempt to reach the dog to pet her. Made it about 2 feet across the floor, collapsed in a puddle of exhaustion, then the dog came over and licked him til he started belly laughing again :)

  • Aww. Jeslous of all your furbaby pics. We lost ours when the girls were only 2 months. I miss him every day.

  • Our kitty, Saia, is mostly indifferent to A-game.  Sometimes she'll come up and very carefully sniff A, but if we try to hold A "standing" on the floor within petting reach she immediately leaves.  She also gives A a wide berth when she's playing on the bed or floor.

Poor cat's so screwed once the baby's mobile, lol.  Thankfully she's got several high places she can go hide.

  • Penelope looooves Obie. We let her grab hold of his fur because we think it's funny. Not cool for him. He's totally harmless though. He just puts up with her. I'm pretty sure he's annoyed that she stole his thunder. image
  • We have two beagles of our own and we're fostering a third. Our oldest was very protective at first and then both of ours were just indifferent to him for several months. Now that he's more active they are interested in him and come up to him for pets. The oldest is the only one who licks faces. All three dogs will let him pet and pull fur. I'm not too concerned about the pulling. the dogs are good and put up with a lot, but we do say no and redirect if he's pulling too much. I'm more concerned about him getting in between a dog and food when he starts moving. That's the only time the dogs get upset since they are beagles and love their food.

If I can ever figure out how to post a picture I will.

Yay I love a pack of beagles! The one I have now is fine with food but my last was food aggressive as well even tho otherwise he was super sweet. I've told my SO we will need to be extra careful about that, just in case. Their noses just won't shut down ;)
  • We have two dogs - Abel, a black lab, and Oliver, a mix. Both rescues. Both dogs love T and T loves to watch them play. Abel loves to lick T, whereas Oliver is very protective watching over T but a little suspect of letting T pet him since T's a fur grabber. Here's T riding Abel like a horse.
  • We have a love love relationship going on. Porter is so insanely tolerant of DS it's amazing! He is also insanely protective of him. Bullmastiffs and Boxers (his mix) are known to be loyal till the end though.

Porter has no issue so far with DS poking him, petting him, kicking him accidentally, etc. and he loves liking bananas and sweet potato off DS' face!

This reminds me, my ILs have a Boxer and LO is the 5th grandbaby he's been through, never hurt one of them. Poor guy puts up with so much crap, lol. <3

  • @UnofficiallyLO, glad I'm not the only one who loves beagles!

  • Quinn thinks all the animals are funny. The cats are indifferent. Finn, our westie will eat her toys. Baxter, our golden, will lick her face or hands just to see how they taste. If she's sitting on my lap he also tries to get on my lap, which makes Finn jealous and suddenly I'm just over run by creatures on top of me.
