Trouble TTC

3rd Round of Meds in one cycle...

I'm not a regular poster on this board but I lurk constantly.

I am now on my 3rd round of meds this cycle which started August 15th.
Clomid 25mg- 8/26-8/30
Clomid 50mg- 9/18-9/22
Femara 2.5mg- 9/29-10/03

I posted back when I started the 2nd round of clomid and everyone was very helpful with calming me down and saying its normal.
I am now on my last day of Femara (which I think was very close to my last dose of Clomid but the doctor believed my body wasn't responding again).
I have an appointment on Sunday for a follow up and I'm feeling pretty negative about it. I know I just started with the meds and I knew it wasn't going to happen right away but I didn't think the wait was going to be from trying to get my body to do something! Can someone calm me down and relate?

Re: 3rd Round of Meds in one cycle...

  • Sorry, that sounds stressful! Femara and Clomid work in different ways so there's no reason to think Femara won't work for you.

It's a little strange to me that your doctor is still stair stepping this far into a cycle. From what I've read, the best chances are with linings and follicles that have grown only up to 3 weeks (O by CD21) and after that, it's possible to get pregnant but the chances go down.

Hopefully this gets you a nice mature follie! If it doesn't work, maybe have a good consult with your RE to hear what his/her plans are for next cycle and why.

  • All of my follicles have been under 10mm with every round. I'm hoping it does work for me since the clomid didn't seem to. And they have been monitoring my lining with my ultrasounds also. I thought it was kinda strange they are still going to but I guess I'm not going to argue! Only symptoms I have had with both have been hot flashes so I guess it isn't all that bad.

  • My RE did bring up metformin after all our testing but said I way boardline and suggested trying without it first.

I'm beginning to get more medical knowledge about the oral medications but I'm not sure about the injectables. Oral meds fool your body to produce what you need while injects are just putting in what you need directly, right?

  • I had to stair-step both of my Clomid cycles. Your doctor started you on a very low dose. Honestly, as much as it sucks, if you don't have larger follicles at your post Femara scan, I'd ask for Provera and start over.

Like @rainbowbridge14 said, I'd either ask to start at a much higher dose of Clomid (say, 100mg) or ask about adding injects. Unfortunately, sometimes you have to advocate for yourself in this process, even if you have a good doctor.
