Eye Control

We were just at the ped for yet another ear infection and mentioned to the doc that we notice O's eyes occasionally don't focus on the same thing. They aren't crossing, and it's only when he's looking at something close... anyone else notice this?

Pedi at first thought it was an issue, then asked some questions and said it was pretty normal and required no intervention. Sight is a normal 'weakness' for preemies (O was born 7 weeks early at 4.2 pounds) but never noticed these issues until lately. Thanks!

Re: Eye Control

  • I know at my DDs 15 month check-up she specifically asked about her eyes, and whether I ever noticed they were going different directions or not focusing on things, etc. She said by that age, her eyes should be mature and working correctly, and if not, it was something that needed to be looked into.  (I know younger babies can have their eyes all over the place and its considered NBD). Since your LO was born early, maybe it is somehow different, and that is why your doc isn't concerned? I'd be interested in whether any other peds asked about eye control at the 15 month.

Yes I have been wearing glasses since I was 18 months and I have almost complete control over my lazy eye and my vision has gone from almost blind in one eye to where I can go without glasses for an hour or two. @nonniedee is right it can definitely be strengthened
