mama cloth for post partum

Mama cloth users--I've never tried it before, but lurking on here has me interested. We're definitely cloth diapering this little one when he arrives. Should I even consider mama cloth for post-partum, or is it going to be so awful beyond belief that I should stick with giant disposable maxi pads. First time mom here, and I'm not quite sure how much of a horror show to expect. Thanks!

I wish I'd had our diaper sprayer for the post partum period.  Would've worked so much better than that silly peri bottle.

I'd say cloth for PP could be just fine, but might be a waste of money unless you want to switch over to cloth afterwards (and use the PP pads as overnights).

If it were me, I'd get some cloth pads that are darker in color so they'll hide stains which will keep you from having to rinse them out after using them, and then just wash them with the diapers.

Cloth pads rock, so do menstrual cups.  They're just WAY more comsfortable.

I can't imagine ever going back to disposables.

I wished so many times pp I had gotten some mama cloth. The disposable pads irritated things down there so badly. I ended up using premie sized prefolds.

I'm in the same boat...just bought my first mama cloth for pp a few nights ago. I hated using disposables last time, but didn't know there was an alternative then. Really hoping cloth is more comfortable.

Cloth is awesomely comfortable.

No chafing, no sticky strip to stick to everything but your underwear.

They are awesome.  Super awesome.

You might also consider getting some cloth pantyliners, to help with sneeze-pee as you're getting further along in your pregnancy.  They're cheaper than the PP pads, but might help give you an idea if cloth is something you'll like.

I want to use mama cloth for pp too but am having a hard time pulling the trigger. I keep thinking about all the cute cloth diapers I could buy with that money!

For PP I used the disposable pads they provided me in the hosp.  And a pack they sent me home with.  I also had bought a couple packs of disposable myself.  After those were used up I switched to mama cloth.   Because a. my stash stash was not very big and b. I didn't want to worry about the cleaning of them right away (I was more focused on diapers).  I would recommend getting some cloth but also maybe getting some disposables for back-up.  Esp. since this is your first and you don't quite know what to expect.  Cloth is definitely wayyyy more comfortable.  I like Party in my Pants brand.  You can order a liner for free (just pay shipping) to try it out.  That's what I did and that's what got me hooked!

Yay! I ordered a couple of liners from PIMP for the awesome snissing I've got going on. It should help me figure out if I like the cotton or flannel better, and then I'll order the big honkin' post-partum ones! Thanks, everyone!

I switched to cloth a few years ago and I'm not going back. I actually bought myself newborn prefolds because they are cheaper than mama specific cloth and they work well. (As a stay at home mom I can usually just stay home and not worth about bulky layers) I also started buying bundles of washcloths at target, surprisingly useful. I will use the disposable stuff at the hospital most likely, the idea of bringing dirty laundry home from the hospital seems uncomfortable. Not to mention I know hospital staff are twitchy about "bio-hazards" just hanging around your hospital room.

I've been using mama cloth for years (before I was married/had kids/cloth diapered) so definitely for postpartum as well. I do have a bunch of big disposable ones left from last time that I'll probably use up, either in the first few days or when I'm out of the house and don't want to use the cloth ones. I have ones with this feature that allows you to refold them multiple ways so you don't have to fully change it, just refold it so a new flap is on top and it feels fresh, and I found this so nice! I also agree about dark colors, mine are mostly dark prints, and I never worry about soaking or rinsing, just throw them in the wash in a lingerie bag.

I switched to mama cloth expressly for postpartum bleeding.  Before then I'd been using a cup with disposable panty liners as a backup with the occasional cloth pantyliner (that I'd made).  I hated the idea of having to use disposables for my postpartum bleeding, and so made my own small stash of mama cloth.  I did use the small collection of mega disposable pads the hospital provided me with (which lasted through the first couple days at home) before going to mama cloth, and also lucked out in terms of not having horrific postpartum bleeding.  My super heavy duty postpartum pads mostly came in handy for the temporary urinary incontinence I had after giving birth.  Sad but true.

I've been using cloth for a couple of years and plan on using it PP as well. How many PP pads do you ladies recommend? I think I already have 3 that are heavy for overnight, but don't think that will be enough.
