Pain reliever after shots?

Do you give LO tylenol or some type of pain reliever after injections?

He woke up screaming in pain after 2 months shots and had a fever so he got tylenol.

I did give LO Tylenol after his 2 month shots because he was in so much pain and slightly swollen where they gave the shots.  If he didn't need something though, I wouldn't have given it to him.

She was fussy a few hours after 4 month shots so she got a dose. Fussy the next morning when I sat her in her bouncy seat. Figured sore legs so she got one more dose. Less fussy afterwards.

Wow LO handled the 4 month shots so much better than the 2 month. I think being able to hold him on my lap and nursing right after helped.
So far no tylenol needed yet!

We do not unless he was to get a fever >102 as it decreases the inflammatory immune response (we don't use it for injuries in ourselves for the same reason).

I know there were some studies done around 2009/2010 that showed that vaccines had less of an effect when acetaminophen was given, though I don't know if anything new has come out to combat that information.

Both pedis I've had with DS and DD have suggested that we shouldn't give pain relievers unless really needed after shots.  Tylenol reduces the inflammatory reaction that makes vaccines effective.  Therefore, giving tylenol makes vaccines less effective.  I would only give tylenol if LO was very, very miserable, and so far i haven't needed to give it with either of my kids.

DD got a dose or two the day after 2 mth shots...she had every side effect except fever. For the 4 mth shots she will get a dose before hand and as needed afterwards.

For her 2 month shots the pedi said to use as last resort and only in case of fever. I iced her legs because she was screaming and miserable but no fever so no dose. We'll see how she does Friday for her 4 month shots.

Voted SS because my pedi advises to give Tylenol before the shots.  Seemed to help with his 2 month so I plan on doing the same with the 4.
