36 weeks - Bladder question

36 weeks and during the day my legs and feet are so swollen from sitting. I barely pee at all regardless of how much I've had to drink. I've tried leaning forward a little and my dr said to try and lift the babies a little to help. I'm not uncomfortable, just concerned bc they said not emptying bladder could cause infection. Once I'm in bed with my feet raised, I pee hourly through the night. Any other suggestions to help? I thought you were supposed to go all the time when pregnant...not the opposite!! Soon ready for these kiddos to come out!!! Thank you!

Re: 36 weeks - Bladder question

  • I actually had a hard time emptying my bladder when I had to go. This might seem weird but I found a position that lifted the babies off my bladder enough so I could pee.
As you are sitting, lead forward and place hands on the floor, (hopefully not on a public bathroom floor). then lower down as you need to, sometime my head would be really close to the floor to get them off my bladder.
That little bit of elevation from lower was perfect. I could finally get some relief.
I still peed every couple hours but at least I wasn't as worried about a bladder inflection as much. I was worried about that too.

I hope you find some relief :)

  • Try elevating your feet during the day or taking breaks to lay down if you can.  One weird thing that helps me is raising my arms to shoulder level, I don't know why but it seems to work!  I also read that after surgery (such as a C-section), nurses will recommend pretending like you're blowing through a straw to help get function back.  That's great you're drinking a lot, sorry about all the swelling! Not too much longer hopefully :)
