Running after spotting/pelvic rest

Hi Ladies -

I am a first time mom and had spotting/bleeding from 6wks until about 16wks.  Every time i had an episode they brought me in, did an US and the baby was always just fine.  Though they never really found the source of the blood, it did subside at about 16wks.  I was put on pelvic rest during this time as well- so no sex, working out, lifting anything over 10lbs, etc.  this was not only hard on my husband but also me.  I am an avid runner so it was hard to hang up my sneaks.  But obviously all for a good cause.  That being said- my doctor approved me to walk and swim at 16wks, and i have been doing so.  after my 20wk US and all looks great he approved me to get back to running and bootcamp.  I went back to bootcamp about 3wks ago and feel good when i am there.  I am really wanting to get back to running though, especially as fall weather is making for perfect running weather.  I know since my doctor approved this i should be good to go, but as a first time mom i am really scared.  Has anyone had a similar experience?  And gone back to running after being on pelvic rest?  I am going to be 24 weeks on monday so i am sure i will be much slower.  TIA!

Re: Running after spotting/pelvic rest

  • agree with PP. If you can do bootcamp, then running should also be fine. Just listen to your body and stop/walk if anything feels off. I'm 20w and running feels funky, but after a few times you figure out what "normal" is for you.

  • I love running too! I am much slower now, but after a few early issues, I too went back and have had no issues. I say if doctor says its ok, you do it!

  • Thanks Ladies!  Ran a slow 3 miles the other night.  My body felt good, but it was much harder to breathe!
