TTC After a Loss

AW: Fibroids

At my SHG today they found a large fibroid that they believe to be the cause of my miscarriages. The OB didn't really have time to give me much information, other than its 3cm and he feels has "definitely" been the cause of my losses. The fibroid wouldn't allow the catheter to get into my uterus, as it compressed the the fluid halted. Just curious if anyone has a guide to any information on fibroids and runcurrent loss or personal experiences. Relief to have found what seems to be the problem, but apprehensive about dealing with it. I'm scheduled to meet my OB the 15th, but hoping I might sneak in before then, as I have many questions that he didn't have the time to answer. Thanks ladies!

Re: AW: Fibroids

  • ((hugs)) my friend. I do not have any advice on fibroids. Sending you calming vibes for your OB appt. I hope your OB can come up with a plan to move forward that you are comfortable with.

  • No advice but wanted to send hugs.  I am glad you have some answers.  I know someone that used to be on here that had polyps that were determined to be the cause of her RPL.  I know it's not the same as fibroids but once they were removed she had a successful pg.

    Everyone Welcome

  • I have fibroids that they don't think caused my loss. My OB, a former OB and a high risk pregnancy specialist all told me mine were not a concern at this point and my largest is 8 cm. However, there are different types of fibroids (inside the uterus, outside, or within the wall which is what I have). It depends on where they are and where the fetus implants. That being said, there is nothing wrong with eliminating a potential problem.

  • @meredithcarole‌ , where are your fibroids? This one is 3cm, but I think it's the type and location that is the problem. I'm been having symptoms, but only since my last loss.

  • ((hugs)) I'm so sorry that you're dealing with this.

**********someone elses successful pregnancy mentioned ****************

DH works with someone whose wife had 3 losses before discovering a large fibroid. She had a hysteroscopy around the same time I did to remove the fibroid and is currently 21 or 22 weeks pregnant with her rainbow. In her case, I know that they did RPL testing and there were no other issues found apart from the from the fibroid.
  • Mine are all over. I have about 25. So I do have a healthy does of skepticism that they are not a contributing factor, but it is hard to argue with 3 different doctors. I am going to see an RE if I am not KU this month. If the RE thinks they are an issue I will have them removed.

  • Thanks @PinkCamino‌ , nice to hear of a success. I'm having a fair few symptoms associated with it, that I had just chalked up to my body being slow to regulate post miscarriage. I'm on day 14 of my period, which has never happened before. The appt with the OB is the 15th, so I guess I've just got to try and relax till then, bah. I just know he wants to try meds, but if I only have one and he thinks it's the cause, I'm thinking I just want it out, since meds will only shrink. There are no REs here, so he's all I've got.

If I remember correctly this woman was dealing with constant bleeding too. Her husband had called my DH at one point because he was really concerned about retained tissue (he knew that I had hemmorhaged the year before).

  • Not sure if it points to the differences between mine and yours, but I will say if I didn't know I had them, I wouldn't know I had them. My mom had them, though, and she ended up having a hysterectomy (she was in her late 40s and her youngest was 12 - it wasn't the only option but obviously she was done having kids) because she was bleeding 3 weeks out of 4. I hope you stop bleeding soon and the doctor can recommend a good course of treatment. ((Hugs))

    My Ovulation Chart
  • @meredithcarole‌ I did not notice any symptoms until my last miscarriage, but I did read that estrogen causes growth, and I've had two anovulatory cycles after my miscarriages, so I'm wondering if that made it grow quickly. Who knows. But symptoms I did write off (bleeding, back pain) now line up. I'm debating asking him to do the surgery, as I've read they can grow back 1-5 years later, but since I have shown the ability to get pregnant quickly, hopefully I can be pregnant before it might become an issue again.
