Trouble TTC

Too early for wine? OPP mentioned

I hope I did that title right, and I know I'm still new so sorry if this is too casual or not appropriate.

We're in the middle of the 2WW and I'm looking for any and all distractions.  My DH and I decided to do dinner and a play this weekend, because it's fun and different and it's at least a few hours of distraction.  We also decided to invite the in laws because they like that sort of thing and we get along really well.

Last night DH sends a text asking if they had decided if they wanted to go or not and his mother responded that they were in just waiting to hear back from the brother and (pregnant) sister in law to see if they wanted to go.  Um excuse me? Who just invites other people? Other pregnant people.  DH responded that we were really hoping it was just the 4 of us because we needed a break from all baby things and she was very apologetic but still.  It's their anniversary this weekend so I'm hoping they won't be coming due to that.

Can you drink during the 2WW? I have a bottle of wine that has been calling my name for weeks now.  All the paperwork from our RE says not to drink, and SIL hasn't drank in months and she's now magically pregnant.  But a glass of wine may  be the only thing that keeps me sane right now.

Does anyone else have any ideas to get through the 2WW? You'd think I'd be an expert on distractions by now.

Re: Too early for wine? OPP mentioned

  • I've googled the heck out of this question over the last (almost!) 2 weeks. My test is on Saturday so I'm almost there!! Anyway, what I found was that there is mixed evidence on either side about drinking during the wait. During the first week or so, even if you've conceived, the zygote hasn't implanted itself in the lining of your uterus yet. So, technically it's not "hooked up" to your system and a glass of wine probably won't hurt anything. I actually found one website that said a glass might help implantation occur..and of course another that said the opposite. I think it's up to you. I wouldn't drink the whole bottle, but I don't think one glass will do any harm. I had a glass last weekend! The nerves can get to be a bit much, and it certainly helped with that. Sorry if I confused you further. Good luck!

  • I think it is a personal choice.  For me, I didn't want to take a chance with anything because I knew I would blame that as the reason if I got a BFN.  On the other hand, think of all the woman that aren't trying as in depth as we are so they have no idea they're pregnant until they miss their period and I'm sure a lot of them have been drinking during that 2WW because they had no idea they were pregnant.  Like the PP said, technically the baby wouldn't be "hooked up" to your system yet.  I don't think a glass would hurt!
  • This is going to come as no surprise, but I am in camp drink til' it's pink. I'm not saying I go out and get dancing on the bar wasted, but wine keeps me sane. IMO, the negative impact that stress has on my body is worse than whatever a glass or two of wine would do. But everyone is different.

I agree here. I get stressed SOO easily, wine helps me out. The only thing I have a hard time with is if I drink wine the night before I have a tough time working out in the morning. I say, just use caution and enjoy :D

  • Count me as another for drink 'til it's pink (within reason).  I figure one small positive of not being pregnant yet is that I can partake in the wine.
  • Another drink 'til it's pink member here. I had a glass of wine right after (well, not RIGHT after) my IUI this time around. It helps me relax, so what the hell. I've also asked me RE when my cut-off should be, and he said about 3 -4 days after IUI, take it down to one or two glasses.

  • Asking if it was too early was a rookie mistake I won't make again :)
I had half a glass of champagne the night before my IUI at my best friends wedding, so I kinda figure I've already screwed it up if it's a BFN. But our nurse did say to have a bottle of wine and make baby making fun again so who knows.

I think I'll enjoy my glass of wine guilt free tonight while trying to catch up on Supernatural on Netflix.
  • Honestly, wine is a big part of getting through all these days of prescribed "relations" and still making it fun.

  • I drink within reason during my 2WW...I've done both though.  I've stayed completely sober all month, just during the 2WW, not cared at all...and obviously none of that has mattered lol So I cut back my drinking during the 2WW but I still drink :)

All of this ^. Most of what I've read says the baby doesn't get your blood until week 5. And you KNOW we'll all know if we're pregnant long before then!
If the embryo didn't hooked up to your blood stream until week 5, then you wouldn't be able to turn a pregnancy test until then either.

Also, another vote for drink in moderation!
