2nd Trimester

Placenta Privea

Hey all, first post... looking for support/comfort/advice... I've been diagnosed with placenta privea after I had some bleeding. Of course I freaked out and thought maybe I had a miscarriage. But my doc said I have placenta privea. No sex and no orgasms for the rest of the pregnancy. I'm only 15 weeks. Ughhhh. I was still fairly sexually active even through my first trimester. And now I'm having "dreams" that are more or less torturing me. Anyone having the same problems??? -Jen

  • I should add: obviously I'm going to do what's best for the baby. It's just a very trying time :(

  • At 15 weeks there is a really good chance your placenta will move upwards as your uterus grows. Did your doctor not mention this? Even complete previa diagnosed at 20 week scans will many times fix itself before delivery. So it may not be the rest of pregnancy. Personally, I would seek a second opinion. I understand the pelvic rest/no intercourse but no orgasms seems extreme unless the orgasms are causing you pain or bleeding. Or if there is another factor present that puts you at risk of preterm labor. But I'm not a doctor.

  • I have been on pelvic rest since May!  It is tough but you do what you have to do!
Follow your doctors orders and hopefully it will resolve on its own shortly!

  • Is yours a complete or partial previa? I was diagnosed with a complete previa at 20 weeks. Of course I Googled it, read all the complications and got totally freaked out!! However, at my 24 week appointment it had moved quite a bit. My doctor is confident that it will be completely out of the way by 28 weeks and I'll be able to have a normal delivery. I would just wait it out. Hopefully it will move!

  • Thanks ladies. It's partial. My doctor told me no orgasms for the time being because he said it could cause bleeding. I do not wanna see bleeding like I saw because it really scared me. He did mention it could move and resolve itself but even then I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable having sex until after baby comes. Can't necessarily say that as long as the doctor clears me, I wouldn't go for an orgasm though. The erotic dreams are enough to make me want to scratch my nails against the walls. ughh!

  • ksgsmu - no sex for you either? I had a follow-up with my doc today and he said things are improving, no bed rest needed, but no sex likely until after delivery. He OK'd orgasms but I talked to my hubby and we both agreed we're not really comfortable with it. So we (I) will hold off until after delivery for that as well. Sigh.
