Ring slings?

Hey baby-wearers, I've decided a need a ring sling. I have a Moby wrap and Ergo. The wrap is too much to fiddle with in parking lots, and I don't want the fabric on the ground. I love my Ergo, but I'd I think a ring sling would be great for shoving in the diaper bag and pulling out for quick trips in the store. So what slings have you tried and love? And is it realistic to think they're compact enough to stuff away?

Re: Ring slings?

  • Are they easy for our now bigger babies? Is it worth it to get one this late in the game?

I made one. Found the pattern on Pinterest. I loved it when DS was smaller and had fussy days when he wouldn't let me put him down. Now I don't trust the rings I used. It's hard to use with my bump anyways. For the new babe I'm going to get better rings and make a new one. I see myself using it a lot more while chasing DS around.

ETA: @PaintTheAir You can put the bigger babies on your hip just like you would carrying them without all of their weight on your arms. Again, I need to make a new one, but DS thinks it's fun!

  • I have a maya wrap and love it.  It is very easy to stuff in a bag and go or just leave tucked under the seat of the car.  I tend to use it around the house or out at the store if i think there will be a lot of up and down.  I can still use my 35lb toddler in it so I dont think it is too late in the game for one.

  • I know the Maya wrap ring sling is considered a good one.  I'm borrowing one right now from my Babywearers International lending library and I love it (see if there's a BWI group in your town - they're super helpful for all things babywearing!).  I also tried out a Comfy Joey and liked that one too, but I like the padded shoulder on the Maya better.

It's definitely compact enough to shove in a bag, and DS likes it better because I think he can move around a bit more and see things better than he can in the soft structured carrier.  It doesn't distribute the baby's weight as evenly, so I find my back hurts if I wear him too long in it.  But it is super fast to get him in and out of, so I use it for short periods of time daily.

  • I have a ring sling (I forget the brand) & my baby is almost 24 lbs. It's nice for about 30 minutes, then it starts killing my back. I like it for quick things and how easy it is to use.

    Hey, hey, thank you :)
I was worried everyone would forget who I was. I just logged on for the first time in over 6 months (I believe) because my computer crashed and it's so hard to mobile bump. I hate it.
