Trouble TTC

Soliciting suggestions: books (on tape)

I feel like the topic of good reads was discussed on here a while back, but my half-assed search is coming up with nothing. I made my first drive to the new RE today (DH drove to & from our consult last time.) I'll have a handful (or more) of these drives to do on my own later this month when I go for IVF monitoring, and I can tell already how the 2 hour (one way) drive is gonna suck donkey balls. Plus I have to try to keep putting hours in at work, so I'll be trying to take the 6:30am appointments whenever possible. I don't drink coffee or soda, and music is only gonna cut it for so long. Can you ladies suggest good reads (listens) I might be able to get on CD from the library? GO! :-)

  • Amazon has a new Kindle unlimited service.  You can use it with the kindle app on your phone if (like me) you don't have a kindle.  For $10/month you get access to all sorts of books, including audio books.  DH and I used it to listen to the last Hunger Games book (all three are part of the program), and now we're listening to the Wayward Pines trilogy (just started, but sooo good).  I believe you can sign up for it then cancel at any time, no contract.  If you listen to just one book a month it pays for itself pretty quickly.  Just a thought!

  • I'm working on reading all of Liane Moriarty's books. She wrote Big Little Lies and The Husband's Secret. I love the way she writes and the characters she creates.

  • @hrushka‌ I am definitely going to have to find out if our library can do the ebooks thing. I don't have a smartphone (what is wrong with me, I know, right!?) but if i can figure out how to get it on my ipad, and then how to connect the ipad to the car that could definitely be an option. (I'm kind of a tech moron, but DH can get it set up for me.) @shafwilson the amazon kindle thing could be an option too, at least if I don't have to commit to it for a long period of time. I wonder if you have to have Amazon prime to do it...I'll have to investigate.

  • I'm a little behind the times, but I'm in the middle of the Game of Thrones series (I'm reading, but I know they have an audiotape series). Long series, captivating story line. That is, if you haven't already read it/seen the HBO series.

  • I really liked Tina Fey's book, Bossypants (contains one possible trigger when explaining her scar. there is no build up to the topic) and Portia di Rossi's book, Unbearable Lightness (might contain triggers). I also listen to Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace cds often with DH (there are about 10 or so).
